Physio Appointment

Today has been a pretty average day, I decided early on in the day that I wasn't going to do a lot because I was really tired, the only thing that I needed to do was go to my physiotherapy appointment at 2:30.

I went with my mum and brother this morning for them to talk to a bike sales person about the next motorbike that my brother would like, that has a 125cc engine instead of a 50cc. When we got home my mum and I decided that we would do my driving practice and time it so that I arrived at the physio on time. When I got there she asked how I was feeling and I said better but that I was still aching and occasionally getting pins and needles. She felt the joint in my back and said that it feels like it's gone back in to  place. I'm to keep using my belt when I'm riding and see how it goes and then in a couple of weeks try riding with out it and if I have any problems between now and then just to let her know!

When I got in I started reading a new book, and then just watched t.v. I've got a lot of creative projects in my mind that I am hoping to start doing soon.

So you might have noticed that there is a new blinkie on my page, at the top in the left hand column. I can't wait to tell you guys more about it but you're all going to have to wait a little bit longer for that bit of information sorry guys! I'll give you a hint though it is to do with scrapbooking and computer software!

This morning I had my driving lesson, I've had 5 lessons with this new teacher and he has helped me to come on in leaps and bounds, it is just over a month until I'm going to be doing my driving test and from now on we are going to be working on test roots that the driving test people use. I've done all of the movements that you need to do, and feel really prepared for my exam, I've been able to practice in my car but only in small amounts as it's got to go up to my local garage tomorrow.

I haven't really done much for the rest of today as I've not been feeling well but I think this is to do with the thunderstorm atmosphere that we have got at the minute.

I love this picture of Gatsby and I, I do not know why I like this picture so much I just do really like it so I thought that I would finish with this picture.

Yesterday I got in another ride on Gatsby, I went up earlier than Pony Club with the intention that I would get to ride Gatsby before Pony Club but when I got there it had just started raining heavily and there was extremely big bangs of thunder going on. We had a cup of tea and the thunder stopped leaving us with just a little bit of rain, so we decided that we would tack up and get on. The minute that I got on another bang of thunder happened and it was right over the top of us so I got off and we thought we would try lunging him well the rain and wind picked up again so we decided that wasn't a good idea and put him a way I spent some time grooming him and giving him some love and attention.

When Pony Club started we decided that as there was only four of us that we would do some riding, the sun came out and we got on. I am so glad that we did because it was the best ride that I have had so far. He'd got a snaffle bit in again and we worked on getting him in the outline and it was like everything clicked in place, I was able to get on him and just do what I wanted him to do. He was working in a lovely outline and maintaining the outline while we did transitions up and down. This is something that I have never been able to do before. We did circles and serpentines (we rode for thirty minutes) and the majority of the time he was perfect he has become so much easier to ride and I felt a lot more secure in my seat and this was the most important thing to me. I also liked how I could feel that I was using my muscles more and I could feel that I was using them more and that was great! I loved it, I just hope that I can do the same thing again on Saturday,  fingers crossed I'll be able to and the weather will allow us to ride. But until the day arrives I don't know.

When we had finished riding the other two girls got on and had there half an hour and while they were doing that we worked on plaiting Daisy. Which was fun.

Finally got my car back!

For the past few days it was thought that I would get my car back today, but I didn't want to blog about it incase I jinxed everything. My uncle and mum took me to get it and then when my uncle was driving back my mum and I drove back in my mini. We went the countryside root back and it was really nice. The car felt a million times better but then it should do after having £3200 roughly worth of work done to it. Tomorrow I will go in to more detail about the things that it's had done to it but for tonight I am just so happy to have it back. It took me two hours to drive it back from Stoke (should have only taken 1) then I went out again in it this evening for a couple of hours. The things that I noticed immediately was that the engine was a hell of a lot quieter, it was almost purring and sounded so nice. The steering was a lot lighter, and it all felt a lot smoother. The third thing that we noticed was that the brakes were a lot sharper, I literally tapped the brakes to ease off and slow down and it sent us flying forwards, so I'm having to get used to that.

Tomorrow I have my last ever hospital appointment with my consultant in the children's hospital. After tomorrow I will be seen as an adult in the hospital. It sucks to have to get rid of this consultant as has been so helpful and got me through a few tough medical situations, and I've always known that if my stomach was to kick off I'd got a safety net to fall back on. However this is no longer the case, I have no safety net to fall back on other than my local GP (who can not always help because of the specialised treatment that I tend to need at times) as the adult pain management clinic has also basically discharged me. So it will be interesting to see what he has to say! Then I have some horse time planned for the afternoon.

It's only 18 more days until I get my A-Level results I'd be lying if I said I wasn't nervous but there is nothing more that can be done, I just hope I've got the grades that I need otherwise god knows what is going to happen because I certainly don't know!

playing the swapping game

This morning I woke up just in time to go for my riding lesson, when I got there I got to work on grooming Gatsby and I was amazed to see how shiny he was. He looked so clean. When I went to tacking him up we decided that we were going to make a few changes. First of all we took away his martingale we might use it when jumping him but for now when doing flat work we aren't going to use it. We then changed the bit, I can't remember what bit he had got in before, I think it was a gag. But then we put him in a snaffle with a lozenge joint.

As soon as I got on him the difference was amazing. He was forward and responsive and I was still managing to almost get him in an outline so I was happy with the work that we were doing. As soon as I asked him to warm up and stretched he dropped straight in to working long and low and it felt great. He was really swinging in the walk and it felt so nice to not constantly be putting my leg on to get him more active. We all noticed the difference straight away. When I picked up the contact I found that I was almost getting him in an outline straight away but I wasn't pushing it quite enough. I was still moving my hands to much so was blocking him from going in to an outline, but we are getting there! We then moved on to the trot and he was so much more forward than he has been, I was amazed by it I only needed the slightest bit of leg and I could feel him moving instantly better and that he was actually putting his back end underneath him.

When it got to half way through we played the swapping game. I got off Gatsby and Jaimieleigh got off Rascal and we switched horses. Even though there isn't much difference height wise inbetween Gatsby and Rascal, Rascal does feel a lot lower to the ground and his saddle makes me ache more because every muscle is where it's supposed to be. I didn't do to much trot work as I was starting to really ache but I worked on doing shoulder in and leg-yield with Rascal it amazed me how easily I was finding the right buttons to press to get him to do what I wanted him to do. He really helps me to understand what I need to do on Gatsby, even if it means on Gatsby that I need to over exaggerate the movement so that it's clearer and understands him more. When we'd finished we cooled the horses down and let them stretch out and we talked about the differences in the two horses. We also came to the conclusion that Gatsby would be so much better if he had a saddle that was like Rascals.

I've got some pictures but I haven't put them on my laptop yet so I will post them tomorrow.

This morning I went up to my stables to help out again, there was three of us there (Barry, Fiona and I) so we knew that we would be able to do things quicker than normal. My mum and I over slept so I was 15 minutes late but Fiona didn't mind, we turned the horses out and then had a good laugh while we were mucking out stables, we started at opposite ends with the plans to meet in the middle. Fiona offered that if I would like to I could ride Gatsby this afternoon so of course, I said yes.

I went home at about 10am and then helped my mum and uncle doing the shopping, after we had done that I went to my room with the intention to read a book instead I ended up falling asleep until it was time to go to the dentist. Then after the dentist I went back up to the stables, Fiona, Elaine and I bought all the horses in, giving them their feed and taking their fly rugs off. When we had done that (we missed feeding Gatsby, Rascal and Little Rocky) I groomed and tacked up Gatsby to ride him in the school and Kelly tacked up Rascal and Elaine got Little Rocky for them to go for a trip around the block which was really cute, it was little and large with one a shetland and the other a 16.3hh Irish sports horse. I'd been riding for about 10 minutes when Fiona came down to join me, she was riding her horse Vettie. It amazed me watching them work because they looked so good and it all looked so easy, if only I could ride like that! I spent half an hour just working in walk, making sure to get plenty of work done in the outline and him moving forward nicely and actively. It amazed me that because I was wearing my belt (that holds my pelvis in the right place) Gatsby responded so differently. He was more active and more willing to go in an outline. I included lots of transitions and circles as well as some serpentines. When I got off I put Gatsby in his stable and we gave the other three their food. We put their haynets up and made sure that they were all sorted ready for bed for the night.

Tomorrow I've got another ride on Gatsby (my weekly lesson), then Monday it's pony club!

So this morning I went up to my stables from 7:45 until 10. It was a good morning with lots going on and it was a good workout. There was Fiona, Elaine and I there today so we got lots done quickly. It was a good workout for me as I did lots of upper body work by sweeping shovelling horse poo up the muck heap. It's safe to say that I got a good sweat on as it was so hot!

I then went to physiotherapy. Turns out we were right and my left hip joint (see yesterdays diagram) is infact out of place we aren't sure whether it's moved sideways or up but it has moved. Today she looked at the process that I am making and decided to try and manipulate because when she tried to feel for the joint she couldn't find it and I was finding it painful. However after doing one exercise it seems to have gone back into place for the minute so my muscles are all having to readjust which sucks but is worth it because it will help with my riding.

This afternoon I didn't accomplish much because I was aching so I just took things easy. Tomorrow I have a day out with Dean and Sue and then on Friday I am going to the stables again, I can't wait!

My Dream Barn

So the other day I saw someone who did a post like this and thought why not, I might as well do one, even if I can't afford it I can still day dream, right?

My dream barn would be open and spacious, I love the wood look and how natural it appears to be but can also look really fancy/sophisticated. I also like the idea of the stables being in a U shape with doors and windows facing inwards so all the horses can see each other. I love the stable image above, I love how lit up they are the wooden look to them and the way the stable doors are. I'd also like it so that some of the stables had runs going out the back so that the horse could choose whether to be inside or outside. I also really like how the bottom of the stable walls are a stone wall.

If the stalls were inside I'd love them to look like this, I again love the wood look but I also really like how open everything is. I like how everyone can see everything and how it has the chance for the horses to go outside. I love how light and bright it is. Even on the U shape stall idea that I love I'd love it to have doors like this, obviously not the walling because it provides no protection from weather conditions but I love the doors.

I would want this riding school, it's an outdoor arena that can fit three dressage test school areas in at once, it can be used for jumping and dressage, has judging boxes around the arena so that you can hold competitions, it has enough room to be used as a good show jumping course, but it doesn't provide much shelter from the weather and living in the UK this is important but for the nice sunny summer days and evenings this would be perfect.

This would be my ideal indoor school, it's open, it's bright, has good lighting, is spacious and continues with the wood effect that is running entirely through my barn. I love that it has a viewing area for family members or new livery horse owners and potential riders to be able to come and watch, I just love everything about this indoor school. It would be perfect for chilly spring mornings and cold winter nights. If only I had unlimited money !

I love this tack room, obviously things would need to be lower to the ground as I am small but I like that it's an open area. It's an area that you could chill out and talk while cleaning tack or have a cup of tea after a lesson or good ride. It's open and it's light and it continues with my wood theme. I like that the central area is the main area to chill in and have fun. It might be smaller than this and more square but it would still be open.

Another view of the stables, these would definitely be my dream stables! I also like how in the distance you can see the house, so even if it's not you that lives there, their is someone that is always on the yard near the horses so that if anything does happen you can get there quickly and sort it, I like how the house is quite light and open as well. These features are definitely the key features to my dream stables.

Obviously I've missed things like the feed room and hay barn but that's because at the minute I don't know what I want them to look like these images are the main things that come to mind when I think of my dream barn, they may not be to everyones liking but to me they are perfect. I'd also want lots of areas to be able to sit and talk or to just chill out and watch the horses out in the fields so that it's like a big family. Because I think a good atmosphere and good relationships with people at the barn is one of the most important things.

Thunder and Lightening

Today and last night we have had heavy rain, thunder and lightening. This is something that we tend to not get very often but has been needed for a few weeks as it's been a heavy, suffocating atmosphere. So after the storm we expected to have a nicer atmosphere but it's not changed it's still the same as it has been for the past few weeks.

This morning I had a driving lesson with my new teacher we worked on reversing around corners and doing turns in the road (there not allowed to be called three point turns because if you need to do it in more than three turns then that is okay). I have also got my driving test booked for Friday the 6th of September! I can't wait, tomorrow I will hopefully find out how my car is doing as it is needing even more new parts! Frustrating. After my driving lesson we took my dad to the hospital for him to have the x-rays that he needed doing and blood tests.

I then had a nap this afternoon as I have not been sleeping very well and had an early start this morning. Tomorrow I have another early start as I am going up to my stables to help out, I'm hoping there will be no thunder and lightening but if it happens then it happens.

Then when I have finished there I have got to go straight to my physio appointment basically the joint at the back of my hip (see diagram below) has raised slightly, at the moment we are not sure which one it is that has raised, as both have been painful and sitting in a saddle at different point it swaps which way I was tipping. To sort this out I have been loaned a belt, this belt basically puts in the joints in the right place and it amazed me how much it managed to alter my riding position and how Gatsby moved, that's also why I hopped on Rascal to see if I still tipped one way.

Where the purple arrows are on this diagram shows you the place where it appears that I am slightly out of place, hopefully tomorrow I will get more of an explanation as to whats going on but only time will tell. I have to wear a belt that holds these joints in place the majority of the time!
I thought I wold finish on a good note these are the pictures we took last week and this week of our first badge evenings! The first one was the grooming badge one and the second was the points of the horse.

Left to right - Grace, Ann, Bronte, Maizie, Rocky (this horse features in all of our pictures so far), Amber (ME), Mollie and Mollie,

Left to right - Ann, Mollie (black and pink hat), Grace (pink jumper), Mollie, Maizie, Rocky and finally Amber (ME).
I love all the photo's that we are getting as I am currently starting to build up a scrapbook of my riding experiences starting this summer. It's going to include photo's, score sheets, things that I've done e.g. the BYRDS Competition and everything else that's horse related, I might even put sketches and drawings in that I do.

That's all for now.

Pony Club - Points of the Horse Badge Passed!

Today was the second badge testing evening at Pony Club, we were doing the points of the horse and I was more nervous about doing this badge than the grooming and handling badge. I know the grooming things, the points of the horse I wasn't so sure about.

I had a practice before and then went to doing the test with Gatsby. To start with I said all of the points of the horse that I knew, then Elaine asked me the ones I hadn't said and I had to say where they were on the horse. I got all of them except three and the ones that I didn't get Elaine didn't know either, so that was comforting to know.

When we had finished that Fiona told us that we were not going to know whether we had passed or not  until the end. We decided that we were going to work on doing plaiting and also how to put on bandages. This is something that I have always found difficult but I only got one attempt at three years ago so I was looking forward to trying to do it again. The great thing was I found it so much easier this time, it just kind of made sense, I really enjoyed it, Maisie and I got to work on Gatsby so that was cool, I enjoyed working with her and chatting with her as she seems to be such a sweet and genuine girl and I like that.  We were supposed to get around to doing some plaiting but we never did. We then got to pick names out of a hat for the horse that we would put to bed and I got Hazel. Fiona and Elaine hadn't got around to mixing the feed so they quickly did that and then I got to feed Fussy, Hazel and Rosie. When I had put their feed in I then quickly pulled Hazels bedding down, put her hay net up and checked the water. Hazel's a horse that I've never worked with before but I liked working with her, she's an old mare but is sweet and seems to have a nice personality.

We also found out that WE ALL PASSED the points of the horse badge. We've got so many things that we are planning to do through pony club and I can't wait to do all of them. We are going to be doing a fundraising badge which will be cool, we might be doing things like cake stalls, car washes and pony rides for that. I can't wait to start getting ideas and doing new things!

On Wednesday and Friday I am going up to the Stables to do some volunteer work as I love helping out up there, it's fun and there's always something different going on. For example today Fiona was rescuing Tickles out of the tree, Tickles and Tabby had gone up the tree and Tabby figured out how to get down but Tickles couldn't figure it out!

Here are some pictures of my bandage work let me know what you all think.

My bandaging is the black one on the right. Maisie did the orange/red bandage on the left.
Another of the bandage that I did on the right. Rather happy with it for the first attempt in three years!

A day out with my mum

Well my mum and I didn't get to do what we planned to do. Months ago in a horse and rider magazine I saw an advert for Cavendish Horses at Bolsover Castle, when I saw it I said I wanted to go but I forgot about it until today. My mum agreed that she'd take me and we got there for them to tell us that they had sold out of tickets for the day, but we could still go look at the castle if we wanted to. I said no thanks because old buildings don't interest me.

So instead we went to Mcdonalds to get something to eat as neither of us had anything all day and when we had done there we went to go to Chatsworth house with the intention that we would see all the deer out grazing but when we got there they were across the other side of the river and couldn't be seen anywhere. So mum surprised me by taking me to the Horse and Carriage Museum in Darley Dale, we got there one minute after they had closed. So instead I spent time taking pictures of the horses out in the field. It was a good opportunity and I liked stroking them, giving them some fuss and of course practicing my Equine Photography.

When we decided that it was time to move we then went to the wildlife photography exhibition that they had got going on, it took us a while to find where it was but I loved it. The photographs were stunning, some of them I didn't like (e.g. the hunting shots) and others I found really fascinating e.g. underwater seal photographs, deers in the snow and a ladybird on a rose. There were some many more amazing photographs but I haven't got the time to list them all out. All I'll say is if you live in the UK and the derbyshire area you should head over and check it out, it's so worth it! I also got a few names of photography clubs that are local to me so I am going to look in to joining them so that I get some more photography experience as in later years that's going to be so helpful.

Tomorrow I will post some of my pictures showing them before I've edited them and after.

A ride on Gatsby and Rascal.

Riding two horses in one day. This morning I got up to go riding, I turned up at my stables to find that for once it had cooled down a bit. There was lots of clouds and it looked like it was going to rain but it didn't. I spent half an hour grooming Gatsby, and giving him some love. Then at 1 I got on JaimieLeigh  wasn't there for the lesson today but Alice was. Before I got on we made sure that both of my stirrups were level. Then when I got on Fiona and my mum looked to see whether I was still level and I wasn't this proves that my hip is slightly out of place. I spent the first 15 minutes riding Gatsby making sure that he moved willingly and forward. I then got off and put the belt on it's job is to hold my hip in the correct position not the position that it is at the moment.

When we put the belt on and I got back on Gatsby we noticed an immediate difference, I was so much more level and Gatsby was a lot more responsive. He was amazing! He turned from me moving my hips.  I was able to do shoulder in and leg yield and work in an outline. I was amazed at how much difference the belt actually made. It's something that I am going to have to get used to riding in but is going to be extremely beneficial.

If you look at this picture you can se that my pelvis tips ever so slightly. It's not a big difference but it is a big enough difference to cause a problem.

This pictures shows it a bit better!

Now here is the difference. This photograph shows the belt that I have to wear the pushes my pelvis in to the right place, here you can see that my legs even up and aren't odd (or if they are it's a tiny bit).
The simple fact that I love Gatsby.

When it got to half way Alice and I swapped horses and I jumped on Rascal. The first thing that I noticed was how supportive his saddle is, Rascal has a dressage saddle. I was able to keep my leg in place. However I was still tipping one way in Rascals saddle this confirms to me that it's not Gatsby that is fully tipping me it is my hip as well.

Rascal was great to ride I was able to pick up a nice outline with him really quickly and I couldn't believe it. He was a more forward horse than Gatsby is and he spooked at something in one of the fields and I was amazed to still be able to sit the spook so that is good to know! His leg yields felt really nice and forward I was able to move him over and feel him crossing his legs underneath him. He gave me a better idea about the position that I need to be in. Even though I prefer Gatsby it did me good to get on a different horse.

Sitting on Rascal for the first time ever you can see that my hips are more level here, as I'm in a dressage saddle and have the belt on.

Really like this photo, first time riding a different horse in a while. It was eventful and I enjoyed it.
On this photo you'll notice that even with the belt on and being on Rascal with his saddle I am still tipping myself to the right.
Riding a different horse made me think more about my position but it also made me happy because I know I can get on a different horse and still work them in an outline.

Today has been a good day. This morning I managed to get a lie in after going to sleep really early last night. My dad got back from Norfolk at about Lunch time today so my brother and I helped him to unload all the boxes from it this morning. We then took the van back and my dad and I went to see how a friend of ours E-type is doing then we went to the pub for a quiet drink.

This afternoon I was at the dentist again, for as long as I can remember I have had a fear of needles, and four months ago it was agreed that they would refer me to a hospital to get my teeth sorted under sedation. Unfortunately they have now decided they can't do it. So my dentist has agreed that every friday when he should normally be shut he will spend an hour after work has finished getting me the work done, using bubble gum cream and then doing the injection later on. We managed to get two things sorted out while I was there today and I will go back again a week today. We have soon realised that the problem causing me to need so many fillings was from when I was ill last year, because I was being sick and throwing up Acid none-stop which was wearing away the enamel. When I wasn't being sick I was drinking protein Skandishakes these were full of sugar but contained the calories that I needed to maintain weight and not drop it too quickly and dangerously and also the nutrients I needed to keep my body functioning properly until my liver was sorted. Unfortunately it has major side effects on my teeth. I also have one chipped tooth from my riding accident last may.

This evening I then went bowling, Spencer and I said we wanted to know who was the better bowler, well last time we went we won one game each out of two, the same thing happened today so we are pretty level in the way that we bowl.

Tomorrow I get to ride Gatsby, I'm hoping that the heat isn't going to be to bad and that if it is there is at least a draft. I feel more sorry for Gatsby in this heat than I do for myself because I can find ways to cope with it but Gatsby is black so he attracts the heat more than other horses but he also attracts so many flies.

I'll also have some pictures showing the damage that I have done in my hip. I'll have a picture without the belt on that I have to wear to hold my hip in the correct place (I'll explain more about that tomorrow). I will also have a picture of it with my belt on to see if my legs look more level and also see how it effects my riding and if it improves my balance. I know I'm going to ache more but if it means I can get my hip sorted then that is all that matters to me.

The five main horses in my life so far.

1)The Intro Horse.
We each came into horses in our own way, but it was always with a horse leading us. This might have been a friend's first pony or perhaps it was a draft horse on a farm that you visited once. It might have been a real-life meeting, or an imaginary one.

I've always liked horses ever since I was little, I can't even imagine what the first horse that made me want to ride was because the love was always there. However here are a couple the first was a horse that I nick named 'Holly' she lived at the back of one of the pubs that we used to go in as a kid and I loved wandering off to go and stroke her and watch her in the field. However as I kid I also loved StarLite out of Rainbow Brite I used to read the book all the time, and of course I loved Black Beauty.

2) The Experimental Horse
Once you had crossed the line between 'Darn. they're big!' and 'Wow, Can  I try that?' you found yourself face to face with the horse that would suffer through your early attempts at figuring out the whole horse experience. Wherever this horse came from, he probably didn't benefit from the encounter as much as you did.

There were a couple of horses that did this, there names being Wally and Jimmy these two horses taught me how to actually ride a rising trot or sit a canter. Wally and Jimmy were both extremely lazy so they taught me how to get them moving. I always got told by my riding teacher that I had 'a hot seat' because this was something that I never struggled with.

This is Wally, not the best riding but a horse that taught me how to make them move not just plod around like a riding school pony.
3) The Connected Horse
The first horses we meet don't really connect with us, nor do we with them. Those are experiences in survival and test of endurance. The connected horse is the first horse you truly bond with. This is the horse that sounds a chord that lives so deep in you that you might never heard it otherwise.

Here enters Jake, this horse was the first horse that I ever really loved. I couldn't wait to ride him. The first thing that I ever got told was you'll either love him or hate him. I loved him he had an amazing cheeky personality, he taught me how to REALLY ride. How to really sit when he takes off and also how to ride a buck. That horse was like a bucking bronco, thanks to Jake I have a seat like glue and can ride most problems, sometimes I can't when it's unpredictable. Nothing he ever does is scare me, I've never not wanted to ride him, and I love every minute to this day I still ride him!

Jakey Boo, isn't he so cute, These days he's smaller than what I normally ride but I still love him to pieces.
4) The Challenger
Into each person life, a little challenge must fall. You'll have read that one final training book, bought yourself a clicker and heading rope, and there you'll stand, arms crossed, assessing the situation as if you you actually knew what the situation was. It might be difficult to believe as you are flying down the aisle way on the losing end of a braided cotton line, but you actually need this in your life.

This would be Arthur. I don't like Arthur I can't stand Arthur he is a horse I'd never ride but he's another horse that taught me how to sit. He challenged me and in the end I could ride him but he wasn't a horse that I could naturally work with. He challenged me to think one step ahead because I never knew what he was going to do. One minute he could be fine the next he was like a totally different horse. Do I regret riding him? The honest answer to that is no, because without him I wouldn't be the rider that I am today I would never have rode Gatsby and have moved to the amazing riding stables I am at now. So no I don't regret riding him.

Mr Grumpy Pants himself Arthur Bear!
5) Your Deepest Heart
There will come a time when you will look at yourself with a cold appraising eye, and you'll have to be honest about your continued ability to deal with the challenger and other difficult horses. At that point, you'll seek out the horse that will be your soul mate forever. You'll have bought him the most comfortable best fitting equipment. Maybe you'll still go to shows and ride - brilliantly or barely - in the Alzheimer's class. Maybe you'll just stay home. Whatever you do, one day you'll realise that after all the money you spent on animal communicators and trainers, you only had to stop and listen and would have clearly heard your horse's thoughts and desires.

I haven't got this horse yet but there's a horse that comes pretty damn close. One day I'll have my own horse to do what I want with when I want, they'll be my forever horse and probably be spoilt rotten but what I do have is Gatsby. This horse has taught me so much more about riding and so much more about myself than I already knew. He's taught me that it's okay to be upset and also that any drama or upset in my life stays out side of my horse time, my horse time is just Gatsby and I. Doing what we are good at improving and having fun! He's the horse that looks after me, he knows what I'm mentally ready for in my riding before I know what I'm ready for. He's taught me how to really ride a horse, how to engage the hind quarters, how to work in an outline and how to get respect between the hose and I. He means a lot to me and without him I wouldn't be the rider that I love. He'll be the first horse that I do proper competitions with and there will be so many more first things that we do for now but the most important thing is that we have fun and I love him to pieces.

A selection of our riding not always the best moments, but moments that have been important to us.

Well the dentist went better than I thought it was going to be, my dentist is great and is really looking after me, after the problems that I have had with his new employee. He's agreed that we will do it slowly a little bit at a time over a few weeks because the other dentist has left it far too long. I also found out that I was right and I have got two wisdom teeth that are through/coming through.

This afternoon my mum took me to my favourite pub because I've had more bad news todo with my car but I will post about that tomorrow. I love this particular pub because it also sells teddy bears and I've got a bear from most of the times I've been there. Today my mum got me a fluffy dog called 'Boo'.

I love this picture, this is Tabby one of our new members at the riding school along with Tickles

The image that started my desire for a new hair colour,
A hair style that I would love to have but no wouldn't suit me because of it being blonde, however if it was dark well maybe!
The exact shade of purple that I want my hair with pink running through the fringe.
All these pictures are things that I like at the minute, the kittens I love and thought you guys would like better pictures of and the hair styles led to a dying session this evening to get purple hair with a pink highlighted area in it, there will pictures of that to come tomorrow, along with a fun dentist appointment! Urgh I HATE the dentist but more about that tomorrow.

Today has been a good but tiring day, this morning I got up early to go the stables and help out. It was fun and we almost finished perfectly on time, it also meant that I got to play with the kittens! They are starting to be so adventurous and explore there surrounding areas which is good. At one point they were both in the cage and snuggled up together it was the cutest thing that I have ever seen (pictures will be in my next post). I also got to say hi to Daniel who is Fiona's son. He's so cute and loved playing on his grans scooter chair thing - can't think of the right word at the minute. I also discovered that I am pretty fast at putting fly rugs on something that I didn't think I was (that's when I can get them the right way round.

This afternoon mum had to go and see her physio who has said there's nothing he can do for her back so she needs to see someone else, he gave her an exercise to train her shoulder to go back in place and I also am going to try doing them. When I got in this evening I curled up and watched some of my favourite t.v. shows then had a chinese.

Pony Club Achievement.

It was a good night at pony club today and we all managed to pass our pony club handling and grooming badge so this was great. Next week we will do another badge, I think we agreed on points of the horse. I'm going to have to do some brushing up on them as I find them really hard to remember.

When we got there we talked about what we were going to be doing, we then got two horses and split in to two groups, four of us had Hazel and the other three had Big Rocky. The first thing that we had to do was lead the horses in a straight line, then round a certain block, back again and halt. Making sure to use our voices and actually talk to the horses. We then put Hazel back in her stable and left Rocky tied up while Fiona got Daisy out. We then had to show that we could tie a horse up using a slip know, this time I got to work with Daisy who is so adorably cute.

We all went in the tack room for cake and drinks. After we had done we all had a piece of paper and a pen, in front of us was a grooming box with all the pieces out on the floor. We had to right down at least Six of the pieces of equipment and then say what they were used for, e.g. a hoof pick is to pick out the horses hooves. After we had done this we had to show that we knew what to do with a body brush and metal curry comb and also how to pick a horses hoof up and pick it out.

We then got told that we had all passed so we took a picture of all of us around Rocky holding our badges, I got to be in the middle and hold Rocky. We then picked names out of a hat for which horse we were going to be putting to bed. I got the Little Boys (Rocky and Dixie) and we had to skip out their stables, feed them, check there water and put the right hay nets up. Then we could give them a quick brush over and check out their feet. Which was cool. Because Dixie is quite old he eats quite slowly, so I got to help Fiona out with her boys, while she was giving them their feed and doing their haynets I went around and skipped them out. When I'd finished I then sprinkled Gatsby's haynet with water so that it was moist but not soaking wet ready to be hung up by the person who had got him, this was something that I had never done before but enjoyed doing.

It was then the end of pony club but before we went we were asked which badge we wanted to do next week. We had the choice of doing mucking out or points of the horse. No-one put their hands up for mucking out so it was decided that we were going to do points of the horse. Then on the next own a pony day we can do the mucking out badge because we will be mucking out anyway.

Tomorrow morning I am going up to the stables for 7:45ish to do some mucking out and hay net filling, I love my extra horse time as it always makes me smile and feel better. When Elaine puts the picture on facebook I will post it here for you all to see.

On October the 20th I will be going to see Carl Hester, Charlotte Dujardin and Richard Davidson. Those of you that have been following my blog will know that Carl Hester is my all time favourite rider he amazes me. I've seen him once before when I saw the Spanish Riding School and have said that I would love to see him again.

This started yesterday when Fiona told me to imagine how Carl Hester looks when he's riding as I was having some outline issues she then asked me if I wanted to see him to which I answered yes! So she told me that I could go with her and Elaine on the 20th October this earned an immediate yes from me and then a yes from my mum to! I'm so excited to see three amazing riders that hold so much talent that I can only hope to be like one day. I truly LOVE the experiences that I am getting at the minute and I know that they are going to help me progress with my riding as my riding is the consistent thing in my life.

Today I've had a really lazy day, I slept til 11:30am this morning after not getting to sleep until late. Then when I got up I watched some TV with my mum and Dad. I then started reading another magazine and entering more competitions, I've always wanted to win things but never have so every competition there is in each horse riding magazine that I get I'm going to enter until I win something. There were quite a few things that I entered for and I'm hoping that I will win some of them, but I'm not going to say what they are until later.

When I'd done this I then went outside with my dad to keep him and my mum company while my dad painted the second layer of purple gloss paint on to our garage door. We think it'll only need to coats but it was shining that much in the sun that we won't know until tomorrow when it is in the shade.

Tomorrow I've got pony club and we are doing one of the badges. I think it's the grooming badge that we are doing this week. It's exciting but I'm also nervous to.

So Until Next Time

Anyone who lives in the UK will know that when the word 'summer' starts being used that we are going to get cold and wet weather! Well not this year for the past two weeks we have had really hot weather (well hot for here ranging from the mid 20's all the way unto 32degrees/89.6 Fahrenheit). Today was no change, when I first woke up this morning I as covered in sweat and I'd not even been under my covers all night.

I got to riding for 12:30 like normal and instantly realised that it was going to be a hot uncomfortable ride, we were riding at what should have been the hottest time of the day. Immediately we said that we wouldn't do a lot of fast work (no canter and small amounts of trot) as we are not used to the height and more importantly the horses are not used to the heat. I rode Gatsby like normal and JaimieLeigh rode Rascal. I started grooming him making sure not to miss anywhere but to stay cool as well. I finished grooming him earlier so I looked at some of the horses that Fiona had been looking at and had to look at them and guess which Fiona, Elaine and my mum would pick. I guessed right for most of them and was impressed that I managed it. My mum had picked a little grey that looked like an Arab and was incredibly cute looking.

When we got on the atmosphere instantly felt humid I was hot just from sitting on him. We eventually got going making sure to warm them up and get them stretching. It was important that even though it was hot weather that the horses were listening. We first started working on Leg Yields and towards the end we did some work on shoulder in (for me this was without stirrups). It took me a while to get Gatsby in to an outline but once I got him in it it felt so nice, I think my problem was my shoulder and my elbows. My elbows were giving way to much so I mad a strong effort to keep my elbows were they are supposed to be. I eventually moved in to the trot which was going to be easier for Gatsby as it was going to keep the flies off him and that was the most important thing (along with not over heating). It felt great riding him but it was just to hot. My dad came up to watch me for the first time in a while and Jenny also came up to see how he was doing, it was so nice, I really like Jenny and find her a nice person to get on with. I realised that I find it so much easier to ride with out stirrups, other than the fact I couldn't get my leg in place today. It was a good lace and made me realise how much looser my hips need to be, when I worked hard to get them in the right place I got some really nice shoulder-in's but it was opening my hips and moving them that I was struggling with but I got there in the end and finished with no stirrups.

I also have some exciting news for you but that deserves a post of its own. So...

wierd wednesday

My mum has decided that today is wierd Wednesday as it has just been a bad day. First thing this morning my mum got a phone call off orange to do with her upgrading her phones, well as you'll know that happened weeks ago as I had got a new phone, well the guy from orange tried telling my mum that she was wrong and we hadn't got a contract phone.

Then we went in to where my Physio appointment is going to be to be told that they had booked it in for the week before! Ermmmm NO you said it was going to be the tenth because my mum had to cancel her physio appointment so that I could have mine as I have been waiting that long. The receptionist there basically said we were wrong and she wouldn't possibly have said that.

This afternoon my uncle got a phone call as he is selling his holiday home. He got asked if he could get everything done for a week on Friday. The contract hasn't even been signed yet and then he should have two weeks after that to move all his stuff out. So it looks like this weekend he will be driving down to Norfolk to get everything packed up in a rush.

This is just a few of the things that have gone wrong today.
So I'm going to curl up and watch some t.v. and hopefully get an early nights sleep.

Driving lessons and cartoon fun

Yesterday at Pony Club we were doing some practice towards our first badge night next week! The first badge that we will be doing is grooming. So yesterday with the sun shining and it being nice hot weather we got the sponges and shampoo out and started working on bathing the horses. Alice and I did Gatsby and first of all we made sure to brush him all over especially his tale which was particularly knotty. When we had done we started putting the horses to bed, making sure to put the hay nets u and top the water up. It was then time to go home but mum was running late so Fiona let me get Tabby out (one of the new kittens) so I got lots of cuddles with them. They are so cute and I love them, I'm looking forward to afternoons at the stables and cuddles with the kittens.

This morning I had got my third driving lesson with my new driving teacher. We decided that we were going to work on doing emergency stops. We talked about how it was important not to stall when doing the emergency stop. We also talked about what you'd do if it was a rainy day and you had to do one e.g. what would happen if the car was to spin. The first one that we did was good speed wise but I didn't quite push the brake down hard enough. We tried it twice more and I eventually got the hold of it. Towards the end we drove back home and came up where there was quite a sharp incline we worked on riding the clutch which is something that I had been working on with my mum.

When I got in I decided to do something that was a little bit different. I'd found these really cute cartoon pictures online earlier in the day. I saved them with the initial idea that I was going to do draw them again and then colour them in my way. However I changed my mind and decided that I was going to do something that was different, I decided that I would pick random sections of the cartoon, (e.g. the hair colour) and then change them. It took me a while to do it as once I had started I wanted to do something different, making it more and more complicated. I was most impressed with my changing of the hair colour. I think that it is pretty good but I will let you guys be the judge of that.

On this cartoon I changed the hair colour, the bow colour and then made the camera look more hand drawn. I thought that this image was quite appropriate seen as the fact that I have purple hair and nearly always have a camera with me. Let me know what you guys think.

This morning I was going up to the stables, when I woke up it was hot and I knew that it was only going to get hotter. I don't mind the heat but I don't particularly like it either, and when it gets too hot and bright I start getting migraines. I spent the morning mucking out stables and looking at cute kittens! The vet also came today to give vaccinations, blood tests and look at some of the horses, it was really interesting. Even though it was hot I still enjoyed it.

Today the new kittens for the yard came up from Fiona's house. They are so cute and fluffy. I like them. One's a black and white and the other is a tabby cat, they're called Tickles and Tabby. Once I'd mucked out Gatsby's stable Fiona then took the kittens in there as his bedding was pushed right back. They were dead cute to watch as they kept running around and playing. When Daisy started calling for her friends the kittens jumped because they had never heard one of the horses neigh. They wouldn't sit still so the pictures of them that I have are a bit blurry but here they are!

Yesterday I had a really good ride on Gatsby. The weather has become really hot these past few days making it hotter than anything that Gatbsy or I am used to, so while I wanted to do something productive I also didn't want to over heat either one of us. Fiona said from the beginning that we wouldn't do canter work or jumping, out of the three horses (Rascal, Gatsby and Rosie) Gatsby is the worst colour for attracting heat and also the one who attracted flies the most.

When I got there, I spent some time grooming him and giving him so love, he was so shiny! It was like looking in a mirror, I then tacked him up making sure to put his ear covers on, this was the hardest thing for me as he doesn't like having his ears touched but he is getting so much better at it! I then also made sure to put some fly repellant on him with the hope that it would help to keep the flies at bay, unfortunately they still kept attacking him.

When we got on we spent some time walking around getting him to stretch long and low, as Alice was in the lesson yesterday we all had to get used to moving with three in the school instead of two of us. He was warming up well but you could tell that he was suffering with the flies. We moved on to trot making sure to do short burst of trot work and walking in-between. I decided that I would like to do some work without stirrups as it's something that I am really enjoying doing. The minute I took my saddle away I could feel that his saddle was tipping me one way, so I had to work on keeping my core muscles nice and strong and not letting him tip me, which was easier to do when I got him trotting. The amazing thing for me was the minute that I went in to trot without stirrups I got some lovely outline work. He was curved and looked so nice! He felt amazing and it made sitting his trot easier and also made me feel more comfortable allowing me to push for a more active trot with him. We then walked around to cool him down for a bit.

I can't believe how easy it is these days for me to get him in an outline. I remember first trying to get an outline out of him and it was something that I'd never done before I struggled with it so much. These days I find it so much easier to do and once I get him in it he stays in it, it takes just small tweaks of the rein to get him to stay in an outline and this is something that I never thought I was going to be able to do. My riding is really progressing with plenty of help from Fiona and Gatsby. I like how Gatsby and I are kind of progressing together slowly, we are both learning and trying new things that wouldn't be possible for me without West Hallam Riding Centre!

Meet the newest member at West Hallam Riding Centre! This is Sam. He arrived last week and has a really sweet nature to him, he seems over so gentle and genuine and I can't wait to see how he progresses in the future. This isn't the best photo as he was obsessed with eating, so I will try and get a better photograph

Gatsby before my lesson, the photo is a bit blurred but I love it none the less, you can see how shiny he was before I got on him and also the fact that he was about ready to fall asleep! This heat is just to much.

Skegness Part one.

Yesterday I went to Skegness, we left early in the morning and it was a really long day. We left at 5:45 and got to Skegness for 9:00 in the morning it was earlier but it was good, I liked the fact that you could watch all the people setting up the rides, and that you could see them sending the Roller coasters round. To get them warmed up, it meant that I could see where they go before I decided whether or not I was going to go on any of the rides.

When everything was more likely to be open, this was about 10:30 we decided that we would go for a walk around the market, as I was walking around I kept mark of things that I liked so that I didn't buy things and then see something and think 'I wish I had bought that instead'. When we went all the way round while Dean got some drinks, Sue and I went to get the top that I decided was the one thing that I wanted, when I got there I realised that it said one size fits all and there was no where to try the top on so I decided not to get it. So I went on to my next favourite thing this was a pair of red satin high heels, with a ankle strap that you Velcro in place and had diamante on them at the end, I fell in love with them when I Saw them but thought that the top would be the better idea.

We then sat in the car again for a bit watching all the rides going round, it was coming up to lunch time so we decided that we were going to a Pub called the Look out. It had got that name because it was right on the sea front and you could just look and see the sea. It was a really good lunch, the food was nice but the portions were big I had a kids meal chicken nuggets and chips and it was nearly as big as the adult meals, I couldn't believe but it was really nice.

When we'd finished there we moved a bit further down the beach and just sat on the sea front talking and watching the sea come in and out. We had an ice cream, that was really nice, double flake 99 all the way! At this point the heat was really picking up so we decided that we would spend the rest of the day just watching the sea and relaxing which was nice as my legs were killing from walking around so much. Towards the end we went on the beach for a bit and me being me I decided that I was going to walk along the beach with the water lapping at my feet which was really nice, and then I started seeing all these shells, so I decided that I was going to start collecting shells to!

At about 6:30 the wind started picking up so we decided that we would start heading home but take it nice and easy. We went back a different way to the way that we came. It was nice because there was lots of really cute little cottages and lots of different animals we even went past a really cute deer farm and you could see all the deers out in the fields which was really cool. We got back around 9:00 and I spent an hour talking to my mum and watching some TV and then I went to sleep.

Now that I have left school I am getting up earlier than I ever had done before, but early mornings mean a reduction in the amount of time that I get to spend sleeping. Don't get me wrong I love spending time doing the things that I am doing but I also love spending time sleeping. Tomorrow I have the third earlier start that I've had in just over a week, I will be getting up between 5:30 and 5:45 to leave my house at 6am with Dean and Sue to go for a trip to Skegness. Since the beginning of the year we have been planning this trip and my mum has planned to have the day out tomorrow so we decided that there was no time like the present! I am hoping that we are going to have some really nice weather!

As I knew that I was going to be up early tomorrow morning I have spent the day chilling and doing some reading. My mum and I decided that we were going to go swimming in the evening as we hadn't been in a while, but when we got there we were told that we couldn't swim because there had been an accident in the pool area and they were still doing all the cleaning up! I've never known this to happen so I think that it must have been something pretty horrible that happened. So instead we went upstairs to the spa area and spent some time in there instead, we spent time in the hot tub and steam room and it was really nice. When we got in this evening I spent time just relaxing and watching tv.

I'm now off to bed to get a good nights sleep for what should be a good day tomorrow, there might even be some pictures! Who knows cause I don't know yet!

Clipping Angel

This is a quick post of something that I thought would make you all laugh. As you will all know we have a Shih Tzu puppy called Angel, we inherited her from my sister who didn't have the time to give Angel the attention she deserved, so while we never planned on having a Shih Tzu we did get one!

Shih Tzu's come with two different types of coats matt haired and silky haired. Here comes the difference with Angel, Angel has both meaning that she knots easily and quickly. When we first got her we tried taking her to a dog groomer, but she had a bad experience there and ever since that has hated being bathed, clipped or brushed meaning that trying to keep her knot free is hard work!

Recently my mum bought a new pair of clippers, in the morning she clipped the majority of Angel but was struggling with her ears, so left her alone for it then we came back to ear later. Because of Angel having two coat types it means that her ears get matted easily basically turning them in to felt! We've always tried to stop this happening for her but no matter what you do, we can't stop it and trimming it we didn't like doing cause we couldn't see where her ears ended! However when my mum got her new clippers it told you how to trim ears that had this problem, so on monday evening we set about doing her ears and the only way we could do it was through bribery. While mum was clipping her I sat on the floor feeding her small amounts of chicken when she was being good, this kept her sitting still and behaving well. We managed to get all her ears done and trimmed! Even if it did take a whole box of chicken!! Hopefully next time we do it we will be able to use the same process but less chicken!

A clipped Angel, we did this on Monday and she's still not talking to me unless food is around! Such a strange little dog but we love her all the same!

BYRDS - A Scribe's day out!

On Sunday Fiona and I made the journey down to Keysoe, the College Equestrian Centre. The facilities there were stunning, they were honestly my dream equestrian centre, it had a massive out door school, enough for three dressage arena's that were being judged. There was a stunning indoor school, the great thing about this was you could sit eating (having our breakfast) and watch through the windows while the riders warmed their horses up. There was also a really nice equestrian shop that Fiona bought a stunning waistcoat from for the summer season. They also had a cross country course set up that I could see from a distance but I didn't see up close. The college goes on both sides of the road, it is truly massive, there show stables also looked amazing.

When we got there we had our breakfast as we had arrived earlier and we were not going to have a lunch break so we needed something that was going to last all day. Once we had eaten Fiona explained to me what my job was going to be. The great thing about the tests that we were marking was there were two judges, one was marking how the rider rode the movements the second one (which we were doing) was judging the position of the rider. We had a list of things that we had to tick off if they were doing that or underline if it was something that they needed to work on. Then there was space for Fiona to make a comment and then obviously the space for the Score out of 10.

We soon started and we saw some completely stunning horses. It amazed me how gorgeous some of the horses were. One of my favourite horse and riders was a little girl that rode a palomino horse, everything that she did was so natural and talented she made it look so easy and she got the highest mark out of all the riders that we judged for the day! The horse was always in an outline and you could see how secure her seat was, it was like poetry in motion it was amazing, she just had that natural talent that every rider wishes they had. The class that we were looking at had 40-45 riders in it, and was the biggest class of the day! By the end of the day my hand was hurting but I had an amazing time and would love to do it again.

I learnt so much from scribing for Fiona because it made me look at the position more carefully and then also made me think about my position more carefully. It quickly made me realise how important it is to have a strong and secure position, and how that even the slightest change will effect my riding and also stop me from getting a nice outline! But I will have to wait until Saturday to see how much it does effect my riding.

I also saw a horse that Fiona and I loved! It was a Skewbald but the brown bard was like an angel delight mousy colour, I can't think how to describe it but it was stunning! It's movement was also extremely fluid, everything just seemed to flow and it seemed to have a really really nice but powerful canter! If I could have taken him home with me I would have! He was a bit taller than Gatsby but I only saw him from a difference so I'm not sure entirely what breed he was.

When we had finished the judging we took the last couple of score sheets down and handed them in. Then we also got offered a bottle of either red or white wine. Fiona and I both had white, and mine's in the fridge at home for everyone to have with the meal at the weekend. On the drive back we had a good laugh and chat, we talked about what kind of horse I would want when it came to the right time for me to buy one and also what I would like to be able to do when I get my own horse. It gave me a lot to think about and I also think that some amazing opportunities are going to be coming soon, I love every chance that I get given in the horse world and can not wait to find out more about what's to come in the future!
