Riding Vettie Again - I love him!

Today I got to ride Vettie again, he's such a lovely horse and really is helping me to improve. When I first got on him he felt quite lazy but as we got going I was able to really get him moving and get him in an outline. Compared to last time he didn't feel as bouncy and like I was going to bounce out of the saddle and I'm not sure whether this was because he was less energetic (which I don't think he was) or if it was because I'm starting to become more used to his stride as he does have a really big stride. We stretched him out nicely before asking him to pick up an outline and when I did pick up the outline it felt amazing. I was able to find it and get hold of it quicker this time and even managed to get a few strides of it in the trot. I feel like I can do more of what I want to do now and can feel my riding improving.

However my hip was locked in place this week, it was really aching by the time I got off but I felt great. I think it's because my hips getting used a lot more so by the time it gets to the weekend it's quite tired and stiff. Towards the end I was able to get him in an outline and move around the school better. He's the kind of horse that doesn't like doing the same thing over and over again so he really makes me think about how I could use the school to get him listening to me more. I really enjoyed riding him and I loved the fact that I was able to get him in to an outline this week and I wasn't struggling or finding it too hard. I also got some quite nice transitions from the walk up to the trot. We would even get a few transitions where I had him in an outline for a few strides before I'd lose it but I'm getting there and I'm loving how much he makes me think about what I am doing!

Who ever said riding is easy was soo wrong!

Until Next Time

  2. Thanks, I think it is the change in horses and the fact I'm using different muscles more.

CON ARTIST - NICKI WILLIAMS - BEWARE

Okay so this post has taken me a while to post for several reasons but the main one being just how angry this woman has made me.  For those of you that have been following my blog for a long while you will know that back around October of 2016, I was introduced to a woman called Nicki Williams, she was a friend of a friend that was supposed to be opening a centre for rehoming and rescuing animals, but also for horses working with soldiers that has PTSD. We hit it off straight away and came what I thought to be good friends. However warning bells should have probably rang sooner. By January or February of last year the horses that I had agreed to look after (that she had got on loan) Bella and Arthur, she was being threatened that she would have them taken off her by the control of horses act, because she hadn't been paying the rent for the field. Although Nicki reassured me that she had done, she even showed my 'payments' that had been made to Angie. I ended up getti...

Magic's 2nd day in his new home

It has been a while since I have posted on here but I thought it was the perfect time to restart the blog. So to start with I'll give you all an update on what's been going on over the years since I've posted and then I will be back to regularly posting and keeping you all updated on the world of magic.  The first big change who I need to introduce is Jaxon, Jaxon is mine and Jack's 7 month old baby, he was born on the 7th July 2020. Part of this blog will be dedicated to overcoming the challenges of having a small child and owning a horse, even when everyone told me it was impossible to do. Jax has a best friend Bailey who is mums new 1 year old puppy and he has the best time trying to play with her.  Of course Magic is one of Jaxon's best friends.  Now for an update on Magic, he is doing really well, I can't remember if I ever told you, but he moved yards last year when I was pregnant with little man. Unfortunately this yard just didn't quite ...

Olympics - good bad or both?

In the Beijing Olympics in 2008 the horses used in the pentathlon were said to cause farcical scenes with fall after fall after fall. This was said to be the fault of the horses that were either hired or loaned to the competitors. It was not blamed to be rider error or a combination of both rider error and horse error, it was labelled as being the horses fault or this is what it said in ' Horse and Hound Magazine'. This horse was said to have been to spooky and sharp, but is it not a combination of rider's aids and rider error AS WELL as the horse being spooky. Can we really just blame it on the horse, when we are the ones that tell the horse what to do, by no means am i saying it was 'just the riders fault' couldn't it have been a combination of both?.    For the London 2012 Olympics it was said that a total of two years if no longer was spent attempting to find the right horse for the right competitor. They made sure that the horse was at the right l...
