Vetscepades

Well guys I felt like it was time to give everyone an update on what's going on with magic. The short and simple of it is my boy decided too give me an extremely expensive Christmas that came out in the form of three different vet bills. A week ago tomorrow I had to have the vet out for the first time this was after a week of looking off on his back leg,she gave him bute and diagnosed him with having a locking back stifle. She recommended that he needed to be going out a little bit more than he has been , so Sunday I put him out in his knew field for the day and bought him back in at night time. This brings us to Monday morning, I went to bring him out the stable and he was hopping lame. Que second phonecalls to the vets and second call out, as it was now his front leg that he was having problems with! I was reassures by the vet that came out that it was just a bruised heel to keep giving him bute and box  rest for a few days and that she couldnt tell me to ooutlice it due to the f

6 Months Old - Present Time

Today Magic is 6 months old, and I was a nice horse owner and got him a present although at the moment I don't think that he really appreciates it. I've bought him a Dually Halter. Up until Bonfire night I was able to lead Magic everywhere, everywhere I went he came, he walked around the stable nicely, he was polite, he'd walk in the school, to the school and to the field, however since he got spooked on Bonfire night this has not been the case. He's started to only walk where he wants to walk to, until today. Today was the first day that he wore his new Red Monty Roberts Dually Head Collar and the difference in just one time of wearing it was amazing. He only had two stupid moments and calmed down quickly after both of them My little monster out in the field munching on Hay, this is one of the first few times that he went out in the field. I took him for a walk again tonight using his new head collar and the change in him is amazing! He leads so much better, he s

The pony escapades and photos

I am trying to get back in to the swing of writing more often but with how I'm feeling at the minute finding the motivation is not always the easiest thing in the world. However I've got a spare few moments in between sorting Magic out and trying to sort everything else out so I thought now was the best time.  Magic is doing great at the moment I see him three times a day and the main thing that we are working on his picking up his back feet. At the moment he will happily (well as close to happy as a baby can be about these things) pick up his front feet and pick them out. However his back feet is a totally different story. One minute he'll let me touch his back legs the next minute he wants nothing to do with me being near his back legs. As I am a big fan of Parelli we are currently using the friendly game to work on picking up his back legs and he seems to be getting happier with the situation. The next thing that we are mainly working on is leading. Magic has been g

Very brief catch up post

Hi guys, Well it has been a while since I have had time to blog but it's safe to say my life has just been a little bit hectic. Magic is now at home and I'm loving that. I get to see him everyday and his cute little face always looks happy to see me. Whole some days I really struggle with the early mornings other days I find it fine (however this will be explained more later). At the moment either my mum or I am at the stables three times a day.  For his breakfast, lunch and tea. I've had magic for about a month now. When I first got him he was struggling to maintain his weight, it kept going up and down.  However since changing his feed he is slowly putting his weight on and starting to look extremely healthy. He goes out in the field daily and will happily let me catch him all though at the minute his favourite game is playing let's break the electric fencing. I've taught him to pick his front feet up and have them picked out (although it is under great protest)

The dreams finally becoming a reality.

Well it's been a while since I've posted on here so thought that I might as well update you guys on every things so here goes.  Magic comes on Saturday and I am buzzing, it's Thursday today and I am off to get his stable ready soon, I've got his bedding Aquamax based on the simple fact that I really like it and think that it looks nice and I am hoping that he'll like it too. I've brought his feed and I think pretty much everything else that he needs. So now all I need is him and I am absolutely BUZZING. He's the biggest foal that they have bred this year and so far he has had a nice temperament he hasn't done anything deliberately mean or hurtful he's just been a foal. For those of you that have got me on Facebook you'll have seen that he is also getting quite people friendly. But once he's delivered I'm sure I'm going to have lots more to tell you guys about so that means I should be back to posting everyday.  Secondly I'

Update post

Just a quick post from me today, sorry I haven't posted in a while, it's not even that I have been that busy I just haven't been on my laptop much recently and updating from my phone is a pain!  So what's new?  Magic is doing really well it's been a few weeks since I've seen him but he's good! Last time I saw him he was letting me touch him willingly and he was following me (or more I was following) and playing with him around the field! He's being delivered on the 10th Of October (which would have been my Nan's birthday), his stables sorted, I know what bedding I'm using. Now all I need to do is sort out feeding, worming, dentist and the farrier! Yeah not much at all, next joke lol. I've sorted out some rugs as my amazing riding teacher has kindly offered to give me some rugs for him. So that's all good.  Now on to the riding, I've been back riding either two or three weeks, since I broke my hand. It's going really well,

Jumping Videos.

WARNING THE VIDEO'S DO ALL OPEN IN A NEW TAB AS I HAVE TAKEN THEM OFF ONE DRIVE AND EMBEDDED THEM. BUT YOU CAN ALL STILL WATCH THEM THEY JUST TAKE A FEW SECONDS TO LOAD. Jumping Gatsby, A vertical Jump, the idea behind doing this was that I needed to work with the other rider and we had to do the jumps as if we were in a warm up ring. E.G. taking the opportunity to jump when there was a gap. Vertical Jump. First time jumping the vertical jump. Small cross rail. First time jumping. Until Next Time Amber Rose.

Magic and Jumping fun

So Magic is doing really well, I haven't been up to see him much as unfortunately I am not very well at the moment. This is due to me crashing my car a few weeks ago. So it's fair to say I haven't had a good few weeks. My car was a complete write off. I've seen Magic twice since the accident but he was a little bit more apprehensive of me at the moment due to the fact that I had a splint on my wrist. But I still get videos and photographs of him even when I don't go to see him so that's always nice. I'm just wondering if anyone has any opinions of how to get a head collar on him and when I should do it?  But now on to the riding part of this blog, there will be videos and some photographs to follow later on in the week. yesterday I rode Gatsby. We rode in the school this week instead of the field, but we decided to work on some show jumping and it went really well! We did a baby cross jump and a baby vertical jump. My mum has recently bought me one of t

Visiting Magic - 16th June 2015.

So I went to see Magic again, I don't want to bore you all with the posts as not a lot really happened but I want to keep my own personal record of how things went with him, so that I can look back in the future and see what things I've done and how I got there.  He's starting to get really curious about people, before when I used to get there he wasn't really bothered. When I got there this time he even neighed at me and it made my day, cause it means that he's starting to recognise me. When it was time to leave he also stood watching me go, but I really didn't want to go lol. He's starting to be interested in my camera bag, I left it on the floor the other day and I turned my back for two minutes and he'd got his nose in my bag looking around it, so I then sat down holding my camera and he kept wanting to come up to it and touch it. Then he'd realise I was holding it and change his mind. We also had a break through when it comes to me touching

Visiting Magic - 13th June 2015

So today I should have gone to ride Gatsby for my weekly saturday lesson, but last night we had a torrential down pour and the school ended up flooding. I was feeling majorly bummed because it means that it will be three weeks since I've rode Gatsby, when I next get on him, due to ill health and stupid weather. So I decided that instead of going to see Gatbsy I would go and see Magic, we didn't leave until later on in the day as the weather was horrible so I was hoping it would pass but it didn't, however by the time I got to yorkshire, it was quite dry there. Magic was in his field with his mum, who hasn't actually got her name so I'm probably just going to call her M.M. (aka Magic's mum). Magic was having a drink off his mum when I got there, so I started off by giving him some space and letting M.M. approach me first, with Magic followingly slowly behind her. Magic was even more curious today than he had been on Wednesday, he was getting quite close to m

22 Days Old.

Today my mum, Jack and I went to see Magic. It's a long drive so I only get to go every now and then, sort of once a week. He's growing loads, I am amazed by how quickly he's growing to be honest, I think he's going to be a big boy once he gets older. He's also really curious, every time I go and see him he's more and more interested in what I am doing and what I've got with me and it's just so much fun to watch him. The first time that I went to see him he wouldn't come anywhere near me, the next time he let me touch his nose, the time after that he let me stroke his back but then he would run away after. But today I decided to go with a different strategy, the weather was quite hot, so I chilled in the field, I just went there and switched between lying down in the field and sitting there, and that caught Magic's interest, he wanted to know what I was doing. Then after Jack had given Magic's mum a groom, and I'd given her some fuss, he

Updates

Well I figured while I was dog sitting what better time to update my blog? For those that have me on Facebook you'll know that I haven't been very well recently, exactly a week ago I was in hospital and on Morphine, unable to eat or drink without throwing up everywhere, with a high temperature and extremely bad stomach cramps. The hospital couldn't tell me what was causing the pain but have told me to take it easy and not do a lot. So for the past week I've pretty much been bed bound or when I do go out not going very far. But I have had my amazing boyfriend looking after me, honestly he's been great, he knows how to deal with me when I'm ill but also knows how to kick my ass in to gear when it needs it, and my mum who has also been amazing, she's had to put up with my bad moods and hasn't even complained. So as I know you read this. Thanks mum! I haven't rode in over a week because I should have had my lesson yesterday but unfortunately I just wasn

He has been named.

Well I have finally got around to naming my baby horse and he is called magic for short. His posh/show name isn't set in concrete yet but it will be either mystical black magic, black magic or maybe even midnight magic, I've not decided yet, I just know that his name will be magic. I'll let you know more when I know more.  Now I wanted to ask whether you guys had an opinion on clicker training, and if you think it works or not. This is something that I haven't worked with before but am doing my research in to. I also wondered how you guys that have got baby horses got them used to wearing a head collar/halter and did you guys use a foal slip? Obviously I'm just learning and need to do lots more research but I would also be extremely grateful for any opinions or advice that you guys have!  In other news I have joined the gym and am on a mission to lose weight, tone up and get fit. Hopefully I'll start to see some results soon, but I'll keep you guys

I'm having a baby!

Well a baby horse that is! Haha I wonder how many of you thought something different with my post title. I hadn't though of any funny post titles in a while so I thought that this could be one. For those of you that have been following my blog you'll have seen my debate about whether I wanted to get an older horse or a foal and the decision that I came to was that I wanted a baby horse. The main reason for this was the horses history. At my yard, I've seen a few people that thought that they had got an amazing horse and then as time goes on without problems have been found to do with its past, so my thoughts with having a baby horse are the fact that I will know 100% the horses history. So back to what I was saying today I went and put down a deposit on a less than 24 hour old foal.  Colt, not named yet, born19th May 2015, to make between 16 and 17hh.  I went to see it today with my mum and Jack and got to meet the foal, the mum and the dad. Although the dad was ab

New Experiences - Bareback.

Well for those of you that have been reading my blog for a while you will know that I've always wanted to try riding bareback but that I have never had the opportunity to do it before. A couple of weeks ago I told Fiona that I really wanted to do it and explained that I thought that it would help me really be able to feel how to get Gatsby in to an outline. After explaining this Fiona said I could have a go and three weeks later thats exactly what I got to do. I started out by riding with the saddle, just to be able to warm up, making sure that I could swing in the saddle without feeling restricted, we did a bit of walk, trot and canter work and mainly focused on getting him in the outline. I wanted to make sure that Gatsby was forward but also that he was willing accepting contact and moving in to the outline. I wanted him to feel that he was doing the right thing by accepting small amounts of pressure on the rein and only having to occasionally reinforce the contact and make it

Still No Horse Time…

…And I am going insane. It's weird the effects horses have on me but I feel like when I'm not around horses that often I'm just not very chilled out an calm the majority of the time. Yesterday and today have both been fairly quiet. I haven't really done a lot, I played on my playstation with Jack, completed a series of prison break, and did some more hula hooping to try and lose weight and tone myself up a little bit. Tonight I am off to work at the part time job that I share with Jack (The River Garden Chinese as a Delivery driver).  Saturday I am back to riding normally and I can not wait. I'm buzzing about it. This will hopefully be the week that I finally get to ride bare back but only time will tell. But anyway that's it and theres nothing interesting left for me to say. AmberRose.

Photographs and Explanations.

Well the blog front is still being quiet because at the moment I haven't got a lot going on to do with horses. After losing my job at the stables due to ill health and working a part time delivery job with my boyfriend to make ends meet I'm back to being at the stables once a week and this week that didn't even happen, due to Fiona's ill health. So I've seen a few people commenting not knowing much about my ill health with my stomach so I thought I'd spend this time sharing with you some photographs taken by my amazing mum and boyfriend and explaining more about my stomach problems.  So for those of you that don't know I have struggled with my stomach on and off since 2006 (when I was in year 7, 11 years old I think). Everyone thought that I was just complaining about having stomach ache because I didn't want to go to school, teachers tried blaming it on 'being bullied' or that I didn't like the lessons. Doctors kept telling me that it w
