So many new experiences and a Happy New Year.

Well magic is doing super well, yesterday we did some more ground work with him, starting to really build up the work that he's doing so that when it comes to the time to ride him there is a solid foundation for it in place. So we gave magic a fuss and a cuddle. Then went to work. We slowly placed his roller and his saddle pad over his back and then got to work on slowly doing it up, the idea was to gradually do it all up while giving him fuss so that he saw it as a rewarding thing and not a punishment or something that he does not do. We then walked out to the school and got to work on lunging, we started off on his bad rein (left rein) we did walk work and really built up the idea of getting him to lunge and stay out not fall in. We then added in a little bit of trot, not a lot but enough that he was experiencing something different. We lunged to the left for 3 mins 30 seconds. After this we stopped changed the rein and lunged to the right, this way he was much happier to pi

catching up - new goals and ambitions

Hi everyone, Sorry for the lack of posting over the Christmas period, I thought that I would have some time off ready to hit the new year with posts every date and plenty of magic updates. When I first started writing this blog it was a journey to getting my own horse, a journey through my riding, and a journey to where I would end up in life. Now part of that journey has been completed, I have my very own horse, the only real dream that I have had since a young age has come true, and I'm not going to stop there. So as life is a journey I've decided that the best thing to do is keep writing my blog. So what's to come in this journey? Me completing my BHS stages and exams, both in riding, teaching, care and lunging. I aim to get my own stables and yard, that will primarily be a livery yard but will also be a rescuing and rehoming centre for animals that really need help, while it will mainly be horses, I'd like to think that I could include other animals too. Making

Lunging Magic, Desensitisation and just having fun!

so yesterday I didn't get around to writing my blog post I was feeling a little bit under the weather so spent the evening curled up with the dogs, watching Heartland on Netflix. However we also had a really good session with Magic yesterday too, my dad and mum did magic's stable to save me some time, and I got to giving Magic a brush and taking his rugs off. After this I put Magic's Cavesson on again and then gently placed Magic's bridle on. The idea was to do a little bit more work with him as long as he was happy to do it, it's only over the past week that I have started incorporating more work. So if he wasn't happy then we weren't going to do it. However I was amazed when Magic was happy to go in to the school and just got straight to it. We mainly focused on walk work going clockwise to start with but then Magic picked up a trot so we went with it, we spent a few minutes going this way before I asked him to stand again and then bought him back to walk

Round two cavesson and lunging continued

Okay so I didn't manage to get a video today but after magic responded so well to his cavesson yesterday on decide to take the plunge and give it another go today. I went up to the stables and magic was already in. So I tied him up outside while I got to work on his stable, it wasnt as bad as normal today but it was still pretty trashed. I then got his grooming kit and got to doing a bit of grooming magic was being good and calm. He seemed to have a sensible head on him which is great.  I then put his cavesson on and over the top put his bridle on him. I don't connect the  lunge line to the bridle as at the moment the idea of the bridle being on is just to get him used to the feel of it. I gave him a quick fuss before asking the lady who owns sonny if it would be okay to lunge magic in the bottom of the school while she rode. I expected magic to be quite excitable when Sonny went in to trot but he really wasnt. We only did walk work at the moment but he maintained a nice s

Lunging with a cavesson session one

So today I took the plunge and went to get magic a lunge cavesson after doing a fair bit of research into it last night. I figured I needed a little bit of help with magics lunging not because he is naughty but because he is green. Some days we will have a really good lunge session, hell be foot perfect and we can get walk and trot work (we haven't started on canter yet). Other days he will do two or three good strides and then decide to stop and then stand there and stare at me or he'll try and decide that he is going the opposite way. Now I know that this isn't really him being naughty it is just him being a baby. So we will keep working on this. However I have also looked in to how I can use this to work on his ground work. The main thing that we need to work on is trotting in hand, and standing and waiting as these are not necessarily magics strong point but in time he will get there.  Above you can see magic lunging today. I will be the first to admit that today

Hide and seek with magic and a wish list

Hi y'all Well today has been a good day, I didn't get the world's best nights sleep but I managed to eventually sleep the whole morning away. Jack and I then went to my mums for lunch, every year my uncle and his girlfriend come down for an early Christmas lunch as they never come for christmas. So today was the day, we did the normal pleasantry conversations and talked about not a lot, but while it was good to see them he is also completely and utterly insane. After this we went to see magic moo.  Now my little man is a complete and utter nightmare at keeping his bed clean! Every night without fail he trashes it, and every day I'll think maybe tomorrow will be better but that day hasn't come yet. I put him two huge haynets up, cleaned all his bedding up and made him a nice big fluffy bed. I then sorted his tea ready for when I came in. Now normally when I am there magic will appear at some point so when he ddo not appear I decided to take a trek down the

Horse mum panic - 'is this rug enough'

Well temperatures are set to plummet again tonight apparently with lows of -15 degrees. Now i know to some people this is not very cold but to us this is freezing. So this created mad mum panic that magic needed a new rug with a neck. Pictures below, so I got him a 250gram Sheldon combined rug in blue. Now I have never been a huge fan of blue I am sure that you will all know that for me everything has to be pink, but I was pleasantly surprised that aqua blue looks really good on magic so maybe this will be a new colour gets seen in more often. But then anything is possible when you have a rainbow coloured head collar.  I have to admit that I am growing fond of this colour on magic and maybe it will be seen more often.  My sleeping pattern is also fifty shades of messed up at the moment.  I don't go to sleep until 4 or 5 in the morning and then some nights I do go to sleep at a normal time but an hour later I'm awake again, and end up with only 2 or 3 hours sleep. It

Snow day fun day

Well I haven't been able to see magic today, the weather is awful here with plenty of Snow. While we may only have an inch or two that's more than enough for me. Instead I spent the morning curled up in bed. I then woke jack up when it was time to go to my mums for Sunday lunch. We go every week and every week I'll have something different to everyone else. We then went to Curry's to get the new kindle fire as jack accidentally broke my last one. All I need to do now is get a case for it, after all it is better to be safe than to be sorry. So I'm now sat outside Jack's uncles using my new tablet to carry on updating you all.  I realised after I posted yesterdays post that iid forgotten to mention to very important factors these of course being Casper and Diesel. Since I've last posted on this blog the dogs have changed loads. While they do tend to still gave their odd moments of naughtiness I would be lying if I said that they were not 100 times better

an update on the best horse in the world

okay so it's been quite a while since I've posted on here, I think that it would be honest to say that I can't really remember the last time that I've posted on here, but as I took the opportunity to enjoy the snowy scenery and take some photographs of magic, I figured it was the perfect opportunity to get back in to regularly posting. So Magic is coming on really well, he has changed loads over the past year, and is becoming a very gentle giant. At just over two and a half years old, he's already standing at over 16.2hh, and he's now starting to chunk out nicely as well. We currently lunge twice a week, we are doing more walking out on the roads and slowly introducing him to new things. Of course I have cuteness overload in the form of pictures for you all. I am so happy that magic is also coming in to winter nicely, I'll have to admit that after last winter I was a little bit nervous that he would be poorly again but he hasn't been! He's got a

I now have a two year old

Magic is finally 2, to be precise he is 2 years, a week and two days old, and he is doing great, he is finally looking loads better. He's healthier, happier and enjoying life. His manners are coming on in leaps and bounds, he's understanding what I am asking to do and he is slowly coming in to work.  I have started lunging him twice a week for no more than 10 minutes at a time, 5 minutes on each side making sure that I work him evenly on both sides. He spends the majority of the day out in the field with his friends but he has now learnt that when I ask him to come in he can come in on his own and it doesn't matter that his friends are out in the field. He's doing so well and takes everything that I ask him to in his stride. He's happy, healthy and safe and that is all that matters to me. I'm not writing a lot tonight as I'm a little bit under the weather but here's some videos of magic working.  Remember that you can check out my youtub

MAGIC FINALLY GOT IT

Hi everyone,  Well I have got an hour until I've got to go out again, to go walk the dogs, and then go help a friend out, but I just have to blog this now! I am way to excited to wait to blog this. MAGIC FINALLY GOT IT. Okay your probably going to think what the hell is she on about? Well for those of you that have been reading my blog you will know that I've started bring magic in to work and I'd started teaching him for lunge. For ages I'd been trying to get him to lunge and he'd do about two strides and then it would just all go wrong, well not today, my baby horse finally got it! It was like a light just clicked in his head and the next thing I knew he was listening to voice cues, and was walking and trotting on cue on a lunge line. I was completely and utterly amazed, I was so proud of my amazing, gorgeous baby horse. We did this for five minutes on the right rein, but we then went to go on to the left rein and it didn't work out.  For some reason

day 2 of Magic's 'coming in to work' - lunging

So today was the second consistent day that Magic has had to do something different, where he's had to learn and he's had to think about what he is doing.  So I'll start with yesterday, yesterday Magic has had Bridle on again and went for his second walk out of the yard in a while. We did not walk far out just to the top of the drive and back, we then stood around and waited for a little while. Magic was super nervous due to the fact that he has never seen cows before. However he stood there nicely for a while and got used to the cows and I waited until he had settled down before bringing him back on to the yard. He then had to stand in the stable next to his (with his Bridle on) while he was wandering around, and at the same time I played Cow noises that I found on youtube (my mum's idea) to desensitise him to the sound so that next time it might be a little bit less scary.  Below are some pictures from yesterday. Such a beautiful big little baby. so proud

What a day?

Not got much to say today, due to the fact that unfortunately I'm ill AGAIN. I thought that i'd still post even if it wasn't the most interesting post.  So today i've had a fairly quiet today, the sun was shining and I wish that I had got the energy to go and sit in the sun but unfortunately I just didn't feel like doing it. I woke up this morning feeling sick, being sick, and being really tired. So my dad and Jack took the dogs for a walk with me, while my mum came around to try and help me sort out BT (I think that she eventually got there). I attempted to cook breakfast all though it ended up being bacon and sausage sandwiches rather than a full english breakfast like I'd planned to do for Jack.  This afternoon we went out today the jobs that we had got to do, which included paying livery for Bella and Arthur and checking on them. Although it took them a while to decide they wanted to come down from the top of the hill and stop lying in the sun, they

car desensitisation

So as I'm sure that you will all remember I used to walk Magic out all the time on the road. Unfortunately he then got poorly, so we had to stop doing this as at one point he was on box rest with literally no walks. So today for the first time in ages I took advantage of the sunny day and we went on our first 'walk out' of the year. It wasn't long but it was good and it was well behaved. Lynn has quite a long drive way down to the farm, so to get Magic used to traffic again we walked to the top of the drive and then stood for a few minutes.  Both my mum and jack were there to make him feel more comfortable with this and we took it entirely at Magic's pace. Allowing him to look at things but encouraging him to move on and not just stand still and freak out. We stood at the top of the drive for 5-6 minutes and just let him see what was coming and going until he was feeling much calmer and was happy to stand and trim the grass by the pavement!  We then walked

some pics :)

Well it has been a few days since my last post, I have wanted to post but unfortunately I've been unable to due to the fact that BT are awful. So I'm currently having arguments with them to do with why they can't provide the service that I am paying for. It's so frustrating and so annoying on my behalf.  Magic is doing GREAT, he's turning in to a really lovely not so little horse. He's friendly, polite and always willing to learn, he's also completely past his food aggression phase and will now leave his food to come and look at you and have a fuss before going back to his food. It's taken a long time to get him to this point but now that he is here I am so happy about how he is doing. The most important part is how gentle and loving he is, I'm so impressed with him. Below are some pictures.  My internet is now playing up again so I'm going to have to leave it at this quick short post for today.  Until Next Time  Amb

a brief update

Hello everyone,  Okay so it's been a really long time since I posted but this time it's not been because I was too tired or because I couldn't be bothered, it's been because I physically couldn't. So some of you that have me on facebook will know that I actually moved houses on the 8th March, this meant lots of decorating and actually left us without broadband for nearly three and a half weeks, when it should have been two weeks. BT have turned out to be a complete night mare but we have now finally got everything up and running, so I've spent the first couple of days catching up with my emails and the essential things and I am now getting back in to blogging both on here and my oriflame beauty blog.  So we now have a two bed flat that's quite spacious, the dogs enjoy having more room to run around and play, I enjoy having more room and room to actually put things where they belong, which isn't always the easiest of tasks, and Jack enjoys having

58. two days in a row :)

Well this is the second day in a row that I have got to write on my blog, they say if you do something 30 times in a row it becomes a habit, so maybe if I write on here 30 days in a row then it will become a habit to.  So what have I done today? The main answer to that is not a lot, I didn't get a good nights sleep so was absolutely shattered when I woke up. We chilled out and watched T.V. for a while this morning then my mum came over and helped me to fix one set of my draws. I also finished doing the drying, packed up the rest of the extra clothes that I am not wearing at the moment.  We then went to see Magic and gave him his food and some fuss, he'd had a Duvet day because the weather was that horrible. So he had a nice big haynet and his tea. I then popped in to see my mum and dad for a little bit before coming home. Where I have since chilled out, watched T.V. and cooked tea for my partner and me.  I haven't got a lot to say today, I'm tired and had e

57. Not such a big gap this time

Well it has only been two days since I last posted, I'm definitely making more of an effort and even though it's nearly 11pm and I should probably be curled up in bed so that I actually get an earlier than normal night. Today's been a hectic day, it was supposed to be a quiet, but that didn't quiet work out. My mum did Magic this morning, like she does every morning, and he was very good for her. Then I woke up at around lunch time, after another night where I didn't go to sleep until about 3 or maybe even 4am.  When I woke up I chilled out on the playstation for a little bit, playing new games on the new tv, it's HUGE. After Jack and I had properly woken up we took the dogs for a walk, they were so funny to watch. Diesel loves to play with sticks and Casper loves to play with balls. So we took a foot ball and an old bat and the dogs played with that, it was hilarious watching them both on an end of the bat watching them both run together. We then bought th

55. why does life always get in the way

I really want to keep writing my blog, I've had this blog for a long time and it's been a great outlet for how I'm feeling, for growing as a person, and for developing my knowledge as a horse owner/rider. But sometimes life just gets in the way! I want to blog, I want to sit down in an evening and chill out and write things on here but half the time by the time that I have done the jobs that I need to do and get on my laptop I feel exhausted, then the next day comes and the same thing happens. So while my blogging may not be consistent I do feel like I want to keep blogging and will keep taking every spare opportunity that i get to blog.  So life is good here, magic is great. He's had a bump to his knee, so his knee is quite swollen at the minute but we think we realised where all these bumps are coming from. For whatever reason Magic stumbles when he gets up, and finds it hard to get up some times, so then he knocks himself on walls, or doors or anything that is r

41. kicking my arse in to gear.

Hi Everyone,  Well it's been a while since I wrote on here, I keep meaning to get back in to blogging but it just doesn't happen, the most annoying part is that everyday I think about blogging, and that I need to write something and then something comes along. So what's been going on? Well, life has been quite hectic at the moment, things haven't been the best the past couple of weeks, but they are starting to kind of look up.  So I'll start with Magic, Magic is doing great! He's finally back out with the herd and he is loving every single moment of it. He goes out first thing in the morning and then some days I will bring him in early at anywhere between 1 and 2 and then other days he will stay out with the rest until between 3 and 4. I feel that he still needs to come in early so that he realises that he can come in on his own and that it's nothing to be stressed or worried about. He still gets walked in hand by my mum when she does him in the mor

23. Dad's Birthday and Horse Antics

So today was my dad's birthday so I had to wake jack up early, well early for him but late for most other people, before we went to meet my mum, dad and robert at the Bridge Inn, my favourite pub for food in the world! It is AMAZING! I had the smothered chicken in BBQ sauce with chips, it's chicken, bacon, and melted cheese, with BBQ sauce over the top of it and Jack had BBQ ribs and chicken with chips, (my) onion rings and corn on the cob, and as normally we split it in half and had half of each others.  After this I went to do some jobs for Nicki (my new boss and friend) I went to get the wormers for Arthur and Bella, as well as a bag of ready mash for them. Then went to see Magic, who is doing great. Today was his first day in as they all stayed in, tomorrow he will go out on his own and then Wednesday he'll start off out on his own and then I'll move him over to the other field later in the day. I gave him a quick brush, picked all four feet up (he's gettin

16. I PASSED MY LEVEL ONE!

Sorry for the lack of posting over the past few days, things have been pretty boring and I have had nothing spectacular to write about, so I have chose not to right about anything. So what's new here, the first thing that is new is...... I PASSED MY LEVEL 1: HORSE CARE AND MANAGEMENT! I sent off my work in between Christmas day and New Years Day, I got an email on the 10th saying that they were part way through checking my work and that it should be completed soon then on the 14th I got an email to say that I had passed my level one and could start my level 2! I got my scores back and there was 56 questions and I only got 6 questions wrong, I was so excited about this and I proved to myself that I know more about horse care than I actually thought that I did, now all that I need to do is pass my Level 2! I proved to myself that all I really need to do is believe in myself.  Magic is doing really really well, I now have a Magi-cam so i can keep my eye on Magic when i

8. New year, new start?

Every year it gets to the new year and people go it's a 'fresh start' or it's a 'new me' however personally I don't always think this is true, so that's why this year I haven't said that all I have said it's time to improve myself. Last year and to be honest the year before have not been good years for me, but I'm not going to let that hold me back anymore!  So on to my news, Magic is doing really well. He actually managed to go out in the field for a small amount of time today, still not with others, but he was out in a field being a normal horse. The vets came to see him on friday and said that he's looking great! They were really happy with his progress, he's now completely off all of his medication and while he's really to be on minimal turnout for at least the next two weeks it's a step in the right direction. We've got to do lots of walking in hand, lots of just in hand things bascially. He's now also been b
