not got much to report guys! I've got two weeks off riding now as the school has shut for christmas but that doesn't mean that I'm not going to be at my stables at some point over the holidays. On saturday I got to ride Vettie, he was the last ride of my year and we had a fairly good ride.

I managed to get some really nice outline work out of him and we've become really consistent in the work that we do in the walk. I also attempted doing some leg yields, while they were no where near perfect I did get some leg crossing so I was really happy with that and the more I did it the easier it was to get Vettie to drop in to an outline. I also got a few nice bits in the trot with him. While my trot work still isn't very consistent it is slowly improving but I do need to work more on keeping my position still and holding my core muscles in place.

Sunday we had my uncle over for the family meal, it was nice but at the same time weird because it was the first christmas thing that we've done this year and my nan wasn't here. On top of that my uncle has bipolar so he's not always the easiest person to have a conversation with. His mood swings are unpredictable and he talks about really random things that don't always make sense to me.

Today I just spent the day chilling at Jack's, I've not been feeling 100% so I asked my mum to take me and to pick me up. We managed to get a few hours sleep around lunch time which was nice. As I felt completely shattered so the sleep was definitely needed.

Well not a lot has been going on in my life so i've not got much to update you all on. I've been thinking about my negotiated project for University and what subject I might like to choose for it but I've still not decided fully yet. Other than that I've been spending time with Jack and a few other good friends. It's been nice to just chill out and have nothing to stress about.

They've given out snow for tonight so we will see in the morning whether or not we get any snow, if we do there will be pictures!

Gatsby - No Stirrup Work - 14th December 2013

On saturday I got to ride Gatsby again for the first time in a while. I was looking forward to it and knew that I wanted to do either some canter work or some jump work, however Fiona said no to jumping because of my shoulder.

Because Gatsby had been rode before my lesson he was already warmed up when I got on him. We quickly decided that I was going to do some work without stirrups. As this is something that I haven't done in quite a while. I was looking forward to doing it and it felt great because I wasn't worrying about falling off I was just relaxed and got on with doing it.

After we had spent a good 20/30 minutes we the moved on to doing some canter work. I was able to get some nice lively transitions in to the canter but I was struggling to maintain the canter this week. I am still however happy with the work that I got out of him. I got a video of some of our canter work and some photographs as well. When i was riding without stirrups I got some of the best outline work out of him that I've ever got, so I've also got some of this on pictures too!

Gatsby and I, no stirrup work and getting an outline out of him.

Today has been a quiet day for me to just take things easy. I woke up feeling quite tired and aching for some reason but didn't think anything of it. Jack came to keep me company for the day and it turns out it's a good job that he did because my dad and mum both ended up out all day so I would have been in the house all day on my own. While he was here we watched some films and we both decided we think that I am coming down with something as I felt really cold but he said that I felt really warm.

Picture from the other day :)
My dad and ended up out for the day at hospital with his friends wife as she couldn't drive. She'd been getting head aches for a while and had gone to see her doctor who told her that she needed to go to the hospital straight away because she might lose the sight in her eye.

My mum also ended up in the hospital but for a completely different reason. Yesterday my sister went out after she had dropped my nephew off at nursery. When she was walking back to the car two or three lads beat her up, she went home and told Mick. Today when she was on the phone to Mick she went all dizzy so he rang an ambulance for her as he was at work. Initially my sister said that she wasn't going to the hospital however in the end we won and she did go to the hospital. Here she was told that she needed to rest and take regular pain relief.

Luckily she hasn't got any major damage.

But that's all for now.

Just a quick update to let you know that my car is back home now. It's had all the work done it that it needed doing and I am really glad to have it back because I feel a lot safer in it than I did in the Citroen C1.

The bruises from the car accident with Evie have just about gone now which I'm really happy about but the bruised area on my chest is still quite painful to touch. I will be putting in a claim against Evies car insurance from that night.

I've now officially finished all my uni work for my first semester. I've really enjoyed the course and can't wait to get started on our next project.

Riding Vettie - 7th December 2013

hey guys sorry I've not posted in a while.

Today I rode Vettie for my lesson. Alice was riding which meant that she rode Gatsby while I got to ride Vettie. I had a really good ride this week and think that it was probably the best that I have ever rode. Unfortunately when I got there I found out that my camera had died so there was no videos which I was gutted about.

In the walk i was able to quickly and carefully get a nice outline out of Vettie, I did lots of lateral work with him all though none of it was particularly great but the more I did the easier it was to get him in to an outline. My main goal for this week was to be able to get more outline work in the trot and walk and be more consistent.

After I was being more consistent in the walk I moved up to the trot. To start with it wasn't great because I wasn't being firm enough when asking him to drop in to an outline. I decided that I wanted to work on going in to an outline in the walk, asking for the trot and then trotting (while maintaining an outline). I got some really nice walk/trot transitions and felt like it was the best that I'd ever rode. Steph was teaching us and said that it was definitely the best that she had ever seen me ride. Fiona also said that it was the most relaxed that she had ever seen me when Riding Vettie.

I did get some lovely trot work while he was in an outline and while it didn't last for that long it was still there so next I need to work on maintaining the outline. I've realised that circles and bending really help to loosen him up also that the more lateral work and the more he has to think about what I want him to do the better work I can get out of him.

Ride on Vettie and Car accident Pictures

For my lesson this week I got to ride Vettie, I had the choice between him and Gatsby. I chose Vettie because he is a lot easier to ride and also because he wouldn't hurt my hips because he is not as wide as Gatsby.

Before I got on Vettie I explained what had happened and we decided that we were just going to take the lesson easy. We did a lot of walk work, working on getting him to an outline but I was having difficulty with my left shoulder so we put him on his bungees (not sure if i spelt that right). This was to help me get in the outline but I needed to remember that I needed to keep working not just let them do all of the work.

When we moved up to doing the trot work I was struggling to keep my position still but Fiona said that was to be expected after the accident earlier in the week. I still got some nice trot work but it's not as nice as the work that I had got out of him the week before. We also worked on doing some shoulder in and leg yields and it was so easy to see how doing the lateral work was helping to get him working in to an outline.

I did ride for the entire hour but I made sure that I spent longer cooling both Vettie and myself down at the end of the lesson. I am glad that I got back on and rode but at the same time I'm aching from doing it.

Now here's some pictures from the accident.
This photo and the photo below were taken today (1st December 2013).. This one is on my chest and is quite painful but I don't know how i got this bruise
This was taken on the 1st December 2013. This ones on  my stomach and is where the seat belt managed to snap in to place.
This one was taken on Friday 28th of November and is the bruise that was on my chest.
The next two pictures are my stomach, these were taking the day after the crash (28th November)

This was an x-ray taken on the 27th December (the day after I hit  a parch of black ice in my car. The hospital were not sure about the spacing at the joint but said it looks okay for me. They put me in a collar and cuff but ever since the second accident I can't wear it because it hurts my neck to wear it.

First of all I want to say thank you for everyone's comments on my last past, you're support has been appreciated and I just want to say a HUGE thank you.

Today was a more relaxed day, I've not heard how Evie is but seen as she went out earlier I'm going to assume that she is getting there. My bruises are coming out really quickly and you can tell that they are going to be really dark. I'm also insanely tired.

First off i want to say sorry to you all for not updating recently but unfortunately there has been a lot going on over the past week.

Tuesday evening I hit a patch of black ice while I was driving my car, the car hit the curb and during that process i managed to damage my shoulder. Then last night things got even worse. Evie and I had gone to see one of our mates. We left his house and were heading home. The A38 was closed so we had gone along the back roads. We were coming up to what was quite a nasty corner, going in to the corner Evie lost control of the car. The car spun, hit a wall and a tree, then spun again in to the middle of the road.

We could both smell burning so my main priority was to get us both out the car we both got out of the car and away from it before falling to the floor and getting really upset. It was obvious that her car was going to be a write off (not sure if i spelt that right). Half of the engine was in the tree and the other half was still attached to her car but it was a complete mess.

Evies ended up with a fractured cheek, possible dislocated shoulder and deep tissue damage to her leg. I was lucky because the hospital do not think I have done an major damage but I am covered in bruises all over my stomach and chest.

I just wanted to let you know what was going on.

Riding Vettie - 23/11/13

Today has been a good day for my riding. I was riding Vettie today and after the two good lessons I had had last weekend I was feeling a lot more confident about my riding. I knew that I wanted to work on my position mainly my legs as my right legs heel comes up.

I spent a while warming up making sure that Vettie was nice and loose. I also wanted to make sure that I had got an energetic walk so that when I wanted to pick up the contact it would be easier to do. When I started picking up the contact I was surprised that Vettie was listening incredibly well to me and I was able to drop him in to an outline. Two weeks ago I had been struggling with getting Vettie in to an outline but this week I could do it. Once I'd got the outline more consistent in the walk I moved up to the trot.

In the trot I had to find the right balance between being firm and half halting him and keeping the energy flowing. It was important that I kept my position very tight and didn't tip forwards. I was so surprised to find that I could get him in to an outline in the trot. It felt so nice to be able to ride and do what I wanted to do.

I finished the lesson on a really good note. I also noted that during the lesson my leg and heel were gradually becoming a lot stiller. I am so happy with the work that I have done and it has made me feel a lot more confident in my riding. I've also been working on making sure that I keep the horses mind busy so doing lots of transitions, circles, bending and serpentines.

I love this photo. I don't know what it is but there is something that I really like about it.
More pictures to come.

Jumping Gatsby 18/11/13

So today I had my half an hour private lesson on Gatsby. Fiona said that I could do some jumping with him and I was really excited. It's been a long time since I've put jumping and enjoyment in the same place. It was nice that it was only half an hour because it meant that I don't get tired easily. We started off doing lots of walk, trot transitions and keeping a nice rhythm.

I then put my stirrups up and did some work going over the poles. When we started jumping we started off with a reasonable sized cross. Gatsby and I had a really nice rhythm so we quickly moved it up to a straight across. We were starting coming up to the jump in trot but Gatsby got excitable and we ended up going over it in canter once two. Fiona said I looked more confident and a lot stronger in my position which was really nice to here. We went over the jump a couple more times all though this time we trotted up to the jump, went over it then cantered up to the long side. Then before we went up to the jump I would bring him back to trot. It was nice work and I did really enjoy doing it.

It's something that I will be doing more of in the future!

Back on Gatsby

Today has been a really good day. I absolutely loved my ride. It's been a quite a while since I've done any canter work and today after watching one of the other girls lessons I felt the need to do some canter work.

I was back on Gatsby which I really enjoyed. I was looking forward to my ride but at the start I wasn't 100% sure how it was going to go. We spent the first part of the lesson working on the outline. I found that he was dropping a lot easier in to an outline but I think that I was over thinking it a bit to much. I didn't get it 100% but I was happy with where we left it off. I found that he was really locking his neck in place so I was having to be really firm with him to get him to flex.

When we moved on to the canter work Fiona asked me if I was feeling nervous which I said that honestly yes I was. I think in my mind I thought because I hadn't done any canter work in a while I would still be cantering how I used to be which wasn't great but it was there, I was so surprised that  I had a strong still position. I could ask him to canter and he would canter straight away. We were doing full laps of the school without me having to work as hard as I used to. It went so well when I was going to the left when I swapped reins and I went to the right. My shoulder collapsed and I couldn't canter which is odd because it used to be my strongest rein. One day I will get there again and have a strong canter on both reins. I was just so happy with the work that I did do.

I then cooled him down and talked to Fiona about how it felt. In my opinion all the work and trot work, the no stirrup work, everything like that is paying off and I'm starting to become the rider I want to be and the rider that Fiona knows I can be.

The past few days have been really good, I've got to spend time with two of my oldest and closest friends.

Jack used to live in Devon but has recently come back to derby. So since he's been back I've taken the opportunity to catch up with him. We've had a really good laugh and I have joined spending time with him. We also met up with some of our other older mates which is cool. Tomorrow I have to go for a Doctors appointment.

I'm also trying these new fat buyer tablets, they are called Raspberry Ketone tablets and are supposed to boost your metabolism. They also act in a way that stops you feeling hungry. I've only been on them for a day but I think they might possibly work.

Lesson on Vettie 9/11/13

Yesterday I had a ride on Vettie. It went so much better than last week. I was still having major difficulties with my legs but I was able to move more with my seat and move up in to trot which felt amazing. He's got such a big trot that I find it really hard to stay still in my position but I know that slowly but surely I will get there and I'll be able to ride how I want to.

We carried on working on keeping my seat swinging and keeping Vettie forwards. The whole time I was also trying to get/keep Vettie in an outline, I struggled with this because my core muscles weren't really working and also because I struggle to keep my hands still (something I need to work on more). I also need to remember that the key to getting Vettie working well is lots of circles and serpentines basically things that keep his mind working.

At the end of the lesson I came on to a circle and got some really nice work which proved to me that I Can ride him. I think what I need to remember is that just because I have a bad day doesn't mean that I can't ride. I also need to remember that Fiona's got faith in me and my riding abilities.

Steph was teaching us and she also rode Vettie and was able to see how hard he is to ride at times which made me feel better. At the end of the lesson Fiona also rode I'm and showed us some of the things that he can do that are more complicated it was amazing to watch and also a great opportunity for me to take some photographs.

Todays been a really good day for me, I was doubting my riding ability after the lesson that I had last week but I feel more confident that I can ride and I do know what I'm doing. I'm not going to go in to detail about my lesson in this post for two reasons one) I've not put the photo's on my camera two) I'm really tired at the minute.

This evening we had bonfire night in Duffield which I got free entry in to because I was marshalling for it which was really good. In another new's I've also get a new camera lens but I'm going to leave you all in suspicion as to what lens it is! So stay tuned.

Just a quick post from me. Today has been a long day but in some aspects has also been really productive. This morning I helped my mum do the food shopping and then I watched T.V. for a bit before it was time to head in to University. I'd agreed with Charmaine that I would help her with her photoshoot and this is also meant that we got some pretty funny photographs!
This was far too much fun!
This evening I watched some more T.V. then went to my local youth group, it started off going really well and we had a good laugh, Evie and I even spent an hour playing on just dance. It's safe to say between us we hold most of the high scores on it.  But then an incident happened and it just went down hill from there, I'm not going to bore you with the details.
What we do when we are waiting for people to turn up, sat like this then we both went 'how you doing' in a really funny way when she walked in!

After we had finished at the youth group we then went to the pub for an hour, we had a good laugh and a chat then it was time to head home to bed. Which is where I am now along with my ever so warm and cuddly dog!

Angel says it's time to go to sleep. She's even snoring.

Today has been a good productive day for me, I won't lie I woke up feeling awful and really just wanted to roll over and go back to sleep, but when I started University I decided I was going to try harder to control my stomach pains and not let them control me!

Random Picture of my sister and Brody from Tuesday nigh
It also helped that I woke up to the surprise that my nephew would be at my house for the day, that means, cuddle time! I went with my mum to pick him up because my sister was feeling really poorly. He soon fell asleep in the car and only woke up because we had to move him from the car into the house. After he'd woken up he was soon happy to play with the Duplo/lego blocks and of course, cars, his favourite thing.

About 11:30 I had to leave to go in to Uni for an hour to have a group work check. We basically had to present our ideas to the group that we were put in. We then got feed back off the group and also feedback off Carl (lecturer/teacher). I was happy to hear that he thinks by the end of the project (christmas time) I will be in the 'Very Good' grade boundary. This is the second highest grade boundary, so it kind of made my day and made me feel even more motivated.

Just a cute photograph taken by me of Brody, he was amazed by all the presents
When I'd finished there I went to McDonalds to get something for me to eat and also a chocolate milkshake and some chicken nuggets for Brody. However when I got home he was more interested in eating what I was eating than what I'd got for him. I didn't mind this and also found it really cute because he kept trying to share the food that he had got with Angel (who's quite nervous around him).

We then spent the rest of the afternoon playing before I curled up with him and we watched some Cartoons. He decided that he didn't want to have a nap today so hopefully he should sleep well tonight.  I then spent the rest of the evening doing some more work on my website.

Okay, I've got some serious catching up to do. I haven't been feeling 100% so I haven't been posting everyday of got the work done that I need to get done and then it's been time for me to sleep. This week I'm off self study time and back in my usual university routine. Today and yesterday I've spent some time with Charmaine in the darkrooms and we've got quite a bit of work done (I wrote a list and printed all the images on the list that I wanted to print).

Yesterday was our annual family bonfire night we also gave Brody his presents as it was his second birthday on Saturday, doesn't time fly by! Then we had the fireworks, I always think that they are really pretty but my favourite part has to be the sparklers!

I love both of these photographs, I tried photographing fireworks last year and it didn't really work but this year it went a lot better and I am really happy with the outcome.
I've spent the majority of today just chilling out as I've been quite tired. But I also went outside in the dark with my mum and took some light photography using sparklers. Pictures to come soon. I've also rebuilt my photography website www.rosamberphotography.co.uk I think it looks more elegant and sophisticated.

Ride on Vettie - 2nd November 2013

Today I rode Vettie again it started off well in the fact that I was able to get him to stretch down but I knew from the start that it wasn't going to be the best ride and it wasn't. Yesterday my hip started hurting and today it proved to be a problem but a problem that could be fixed. For edges Vettie looked like a giraffe I just couldn't get him in to an outline and because of how my hip was I didn't do any trot work. Yep that's right I did an hour's lesson in walk.

It got to the point where I was getting mad at myself and then because I was getting frustrated I started crying for no reason. So Fiona suggested that I rode as if I had no legs, meaning that I had to use my seat 100%. The minute I Started doing this an outline started appearing, I was amazed by how well I was able to get him moving by just using my seat. My hip hurt a lot after but it was worth it. I could do serpentines, circles and all those types of things without using my legs. I even managed to get him to do Travers. Fair enough it was by accident but I was able to do it. I then cooled him down and talked to Fiona about it, while I was beating myself up over it she told me not to because in the end I had got some really nice work and that was what mattered the most to me.

After my lesson, we tacked up the horses that needed tacking up for the lessons. Then while one lesson was going on I got to give Gatsby some love and attention :'). I washed down his legs, gave him a brush over and of course gave him lots of cuddles! We then skipped out all the stables and it was time to go home. It got quite windy and cold. So before I left we all spent some time chatting in the tack room.

Photo's to come tomorrow.

Okay so the other day I saw this on one of the blogs I read and thought I might as well give it a go! If you want to try it feel free to!!

A - Age? 18, it doesn't seem that long ago that I was 16 and finishing my GCSE's
B - Bed Size? Double
C - Chore you hate? Tidying my room, I love organising other peoples stuff just not my own!
D - Dogs? I have a Shih Tzu called Angel, for anyone who follows me on instagram you'll have seen her around.

E - Essential start to your day? Good Question, but I really don't know the answer, I don't always eat/drink anything so it can't be that! I DO always check my phone when I get up and several times during the night. So I guess my essential start to the day is to check my phone.
F - Favourite Colour? PINK or Purple,  I can have anything that I want as long as it's in one of those two colours. I've even been known to dye my hair both pink and purple!
G - Gold or SILVER? GOLD! Silver in jewellery makes me itch but I've always loved gold, I also like gold leaf in art and design. I like that Gold's warm where as I think silver's quite a cool colour.
H - Height? 5'4".
I - Instruments you can play? Keyboard/piano I can play a small amount of guitar and drums too.
K - Kids? None, I'm 18 and have my whole life ahead of me. To be honest though I'd rather stick with horses and animals and playing with my sisters kid.
My baby nephew!

L - Live? United Kingdom, England.
M - Mum's name? Full name is Elizabeth but no one calls her that (she hates it) so Liz.
N - Nicknames? I have quite a few, seen as my real name is Amber my nicknames include, Bamb, Baba, Bambi, Mamb, Mini-Milk (my sister used to call me this because I love Mini-Milk ice creams).
O - Overnight Hospital Stays? I've had to many to count, I was in the hospital once last year for two weeks, the year before that I was admitted twice for roughly a week each time. I've also had many hospital appointments.
P - Pet Peeve? - People being patronising, it really annoys me when people that are older than me STILL treat me like a little kid, also when boys just assume because I'm a girl that I know nothing about cars! Urgghhh Frustrating.
Q - Quirk? Erm, I don't know if I have any, I suppose the fact that I nearly always have bright colour hair.
When I had purple and pink hair, although eventually the purple changed to a blonde colour.

This is just a quick post guys as today's been a long day.

I had own a pony day today and we all had a really good time. I got to ride Vettie and I was getting much quicker at being able to adapt to him and also to move with him. We had some lovely trot work and I really enjoyed all the work that I did with him. I was able to trot for longer periods of time than I had been able to before and was really happy with what I got done.

But before that we all picked a stable to muck out and if needed put new bedding in. I picked Gatsby he'd absolutely trashed his stable last night! So I had quite a bit of work todo at this point all the ponies/horses were out. Then little Rocky managed to escape from where he was supposed to be, so Fussy and him got bought in. During this time Hazel was winding up Gatsby and Rascal so they were chasing around the field. So after Elaine had bought Hazel in, I bought Gatsby in and Elaine got Rascal. The next group to bring in were Sam, Pumpkin and Dash. So I grabbed Sam and Elaine got the other two. Then it was time to ride. So Elaine fetched in the rest of the horses, they'd all got mischief in them thats for sure!

After I'd rode it was time for Lunch, so we all had a chat. At some point during the day my hips come out of place but I'm not really sure when that happened. After Lunch I got to help with the other lessons and leading two of the girls that needed it. Although unfortunately I had to stop with Maddie because my hip was getting quite painful! Sorry Maddie!

Then it was time to go home so we all chilled out chatting for the rest of the time. While it was a long day it was a good day although it did start to get quite wet/cold. This evening I went to McDonalds with Evie, then came home to watch Emmerdale before leaving to go to the pub with Spencer, Josh, Sam and Evie. We had a good laugh and I Really enjoyed it.

Printing and Developing

Today has been a fairly productive day, this morning I went in to University to get some work done, I wanted to do some printing today and was surprised by how well it went. I didn't stay in for that long because I thought my sister was coming over and also because there was a group that was due to be using the darkroom. I was able to get in there for about an hour though.

A film that I developed earlier in the week. I was so pleased with how these turned out.
When I got home I waited until the images were fully dry and then stuck them in my visual technologies book, tomorrow I need to do some writing to go along with the images. I also plan to do some more developing later on in the week or next week.

Film on the roll, before it had even dried. It was such a pretty colour!
This evening I went to my youth groups film night and we watched The Hunger Games. Now this series of films never did appeal to me and today I decided that while I probably won't watch the films I might possibly read the books. I think the story lines good and I like the idea I just don't like how it was done for the films.

Plaits that I did during Pony Club on Monday.

Tomorrow's my own a pony day and then possibly going out in the evening.

Today I had off uni, which meant that I could have a longer sleep, that's always a plus side. I decided that tomorrow I would like to go and print some of my negatives. So my mum helped me to track down where I could buy Ilford Photographic Paper then my uncle took me to get it. For 100 sheets of 10x8 inches it cost me £40 which was really good compared to some other places that I looked at.

Then I spent this evening chilling out and watching tv. I also did a couple of drawings in my sketchbook. Tomorrow I plan to go in to Uni for 10:30/11:00 so that I can get my prints done. It will be the first time that I've done printing without the technicians being there, so I'm slightly nervous but also excited. I've got everything written down what I need to do. So I'm just going to have to get on with it!
