The way to heaven is on horseback

Well from my blog title you will see that today is the 70th day of the year and personally I think that, that is insane. It feels like it was only yesterday that it was the start of the new year and had just been Christmas, what feels even stranger to me is magics age. In 10 days it will be exactly two months until magic is one! And OMG how time has flied. It's currently 6.35 am realistically I should be curled up in bed with the Mr fast asleep but tonight that is not the case and so far I've been awake since jusy before 5am. The weird thing about tonight is that all my tablets were taken at a 'reasonable' time so that in itself should be a guaranteed way to keep me in a deep sleep until the morning but not so much the past few days. Another thing that I don't think is he long with the sleep but I do know is helping with my weight is the fact that I am just stopping snacking at night.  I've been trying to do this for a while but it normally lasts two or three we...

Okay guys so today's post is going to be a little bit different from normal instead of writing about what I've done for the day I am looking for some advice and opinions. When magic moved from the old yard to the new yard he swapped from being on hay to haylage for the first few weeks he was staying in while all the others were out and was getting to feeds a day as well as two medium sized Haynets. Magic then started going out all day so I cut out his feed in the morning and decided that he didn't really need it as you could see he was starting to put lots of weight on. So for the last two weeks he has been getting one hard feed in the evening like all the yard owners horses get at the same time as her horses.  Then he's been getting haylage, but at the minute he's going through two and sometimes three Haynets in the night, and I don't know if this is normal, he doesn't look particularly over weight or anything like that.  When I first moved him we had ass...

Yesterday was a long day and I just completely forgot to get around to posting it so I'll post this now because even though it's 5.48am, I'm lying in bed wide awake but God knows why. Within about 30 minutes of waking up jack and I were up and about and ready to go out and do the jobs that we need doing. One of the main good points about Magics new yard is that he goes out with the rest of the herd.  And part of the deal that was made with loan was that she'll put him out and bring him back in so that he never really goes out on his own, seen as he normally goes out at about 9.30 am it means that i don't really see him in the morning and I get a bit of a lie in. But the first job that I do when we go out is go up to the yard and muck his stable out so that he has a nice warm bed for when he gets in. Okay so you lucky people get two posts today, I meant to put my second post yesterday but was unable to do so because things kind of kicked off with people from the old yard last night and I just ended up turning my laptop off and then completely forgetting about it! I know it is such a typical me thing to do. I went to do his stable this morning and was surprised to find him up and awake however I was not surprised to see the party for one that Magic had, had in his stable last night. I was surprised to see though that the lovely yard owner had put Magic some haylage in this morning as he hadn't got any left. So she had checked on him and seen how he was and given  him something to last him as I was running ever so slightly late. I then got to work on mucking out magic, it didn't take as long as i expected because it would appear that he has decided that he does not want to poo on his straw as gross as that sounds but that he wants to do it on the rubber matting, and that...

6.45am - I got woke up, I was not happy to be woken up, I'd been dreaming about this move the whole night and I was beyond exhausted. I didn't go to sleep until quite late and then I was up, I'd set out all my clothes the night before for me and Jack so that we could just get up in the morning and go.  7am - Got to the yard, NOBODY was there which was exactly the way that I wanted it to be. I mucked out his stable at the old yard for the last time ever. I made sure that the stable was really clean and that I hadn't left anything in it. I loaded up the last few things in the car and we were ready to go. I received a lovely text from my riding teacher saying good luck today and that she knew that I would be fine, this gave me a real confidence boost as my riding teacher knows me better than anyone (horse wise) and she believed in me. Today has been a good day, I got up fairly late and got to help my mum out while at the same time doing some driving practice. Which was fun and also really useful. As it's monday this evening was pony club, originally I thought that it was going to be quite quiet but I was wrong. There was three new girls there that seemed really nice and of varied ages. We spent a good hour looking at feeding rules and things to do with feeding, e.g. different types of feed, why some horses eat hay and others haylage, I did find it really interesting though at some points it also got really confusing. When it got to the end we all picked horses that we could put to bed, I was asked if I'd mind helping Grace as she had got one of the little boys and said no that I didn't mind, then Ellie also came down (one of the new girls) to help us. I found this fun to do but also really useful because it made me think more about the things that we do on a daily basis, I liked that they asked question...

This afternoon was Pony Club. I woke up this morning still feeling tired but also aching, I think I must have tossed and turned a lot last night because I was stiff and aching all over. I spent all day chilling until it was time to go to Pony Club in the hope that my hay fever would settle down quickly, it just settled down when we got there!  We all sat chatting for a while waiting to see what we would be doing this week, it turned out that we would be looking at hay nets, hay, haylage and why you feed different horses different things. So that kicked my hay fever off again but I didn't mind that to much. For Gatsby we had to fill his hay net with haylage to roughly 12-14 pounds so we went for 13, as it was in the middle. I loved being able to learn more about why you give different horses different things.
