He has been named.

Well I have finally got around to naming my baby horse and he is called magic for short. His posh/show name isn't set in concrete yet but it will be either mystical black magic, black magic or maybe even midnight magic, I've not decided yet, I just know that his name will be magic. I'll let you know more when I know more.  Now I wanted to ask whether you guys had an opinion on clicker training, and if you think it works or not. This is something that I haven't worked with before but am doing my research in to. I also wondered how you guys that have got baby horses got them used to wearing a head collar/halter and did you guys use a foal slip? Obviously I'm just learning and need to do lots more research but I would also be extremely grateful for any opinions or advice that you guys have!  In other news I have joined the gym and am on a mission to lose weight, tone up and get fit. Hopefully I'll start to see some results soon, but I'll keep you guys ...

sorry

sorry for not posting in a few days guys it has been a pretty insane week and between being at the stables, going to see Jack, getting snowed in at Jack's house with Mandy, Darren and George, and trying to get my uni work done and ahead it is safe to say that things are a little hectic. I was poorly Tuesday and Wednesday think I had a 48 hour sickness bug thing but not 100% sure. Wednesday I worked at my stables. Thursday I saw Jack. Friday I spent the day with Mandy, after seeing Jack I had gone back to his house for Tea, however the snow got that bad I ended up staying there for three days. Saturday I was supposed to have a lesson but snow caused that to be cancelled, so I went to see Ella for her first birthday. Sunday (today) I haven't done a lot, of done some uni work and I've caught up on some sleep but that has been about it.  Tomorrow I've got a full day at University, followed by Pony Club. Then my CBT therapy thing that I have to go to for the car acciden...

Busy few days

I've had a good few days. Monday I had my night out with the uni girls, it was a good night and we had a proper giggle, yes it was a knackering night and I felt shattered the next morning but it was so fun and I enjoyed it for a change. I also had pony club monday night and it went really well. We worked on grooming horses properly and how to look after a horse in cold weather and snow as we have had snow again. The uni girls :D Tuesday (yesterday) I went to uni in the morning and then spent the day in bed, other than going to the doctors where it was confirmed I do have tonsillitis, I basically slept for twenty four hours.  Wednesday (today), I went to work this morning, I've really been struggling with my throat but decided to ignore that and just get on with it and enjoy myself. I mucked out four stables and helped to fill hay nets, I was there for two hours and it was so cold! Gatsby was glad to be bought in by the end of the morning, he's not enjoying the sn...

First Day Complete

Today has been a good first day working at my stables, I'm getting paid £6 an hour, and working for two hours a morning, this morning I mucked out the boys stables, it's a row of five. I did everyone but Gatsbys because Gatsby's stable was completely and utterly ditched. So Fiona went out to get him some Aquamax bedding. Then I helped Fiona to bring the horses in. It was a really good morning and I felt loads better after being there and working. Just before I was about to leave fiona asked if it would be possible for me to work Thursday mornings as well, so tomorrow I am back at the stables again but this time it'll be from 8am until 10am. I'm getting paid weekly and all the money that I make is being saved up and going straight back in to my savings account. I'm loving spending so much time at the stables, I feel that it is helping to improve my health and help me lose weight.  Anyway I'm curled up in my bed with my nephew so I'm going to leave yo...

HORSE TIME!

Today was my weekly lesson and afternoon at the stables. When I got there I found out that I would be riding Gatsby, in our lesson we were working on being straight and sitting trot work. For me this meant a fair bit of riding without stirrups, something that I used to hate but am slowly growing to love, it makes me ache but is so worth it! Towards the end of the lesson I got some really nice outline work. I think that riding Vettie the past two weeks has made me think more about my position and what I need to do to get Gatsby in to an outline. It was by no means the best riding that I have ever done but I enjoyed it and I know that it's making me in to a better rider.  Then for the rest of the afternoon I helped out doing jobs around the yard. I've always loved helping out and it makes me feel so much better. I was tired this morning but the more that I worked the better I was  feeling. The weather was horrible but it was still enjoyable. I got Gatsby untacked and gave h...

long day

Today has been another long but fun day, it was today that I was going to be going out with some friends that I've known since I did my first work experience over 3 years ago and S was horse mad and just starting her lessons at parkside. Today we decided to make a day out of it and just have a laugh and have fun and the majority was a real giggle, so I'll get the bad bit out of the way first. We were driving a long the motorway and D was driving and there was a lorry on one side of us and on the other an AA van, and D had to slam his breaks on because this van started to swerve towards us and if D hadn't slimmed his breaks on the van would have drove into the side of us, but in the process their dog Tammy (who sits on the back seat) was slammed into the front passengers seat, the poor little pup. Other than that we had a good day we had a drive around the countryside and then went to this really nice fish and chip restaurant that I love and I love their chicken nuggets and...

The pony behind the Girl

Okay so today i though i would tell you more about the horse thats made me who I am, he's a piebald cob that goes by the name of Jake, or Jakey Boo, or various different names depending on whether he behaves or not that more times than not he doesn't do. He's about 14 years old maybe older than that and thinks that hes a 3 year old that gets him to have as much fun as he really wants too. To most people he might not look like much but to me he is the best horse in the world. He might be over weight and he might be lame on and off but to me he is magical, he's a horse that bought my riding on to where it is now, and I will always love him no matter what. Things Jake loves, carrots, food of any kind, definitely polo's, lots of attention although iif you overcrowd him he is not going to be happy. What doesn't he like? WORK, having his hoofs picked, work again and being away from his mates, yes he might be a big baby but thats why i love him. I've r...
