The way to heaven is on horseback

 Wow it feels like a life time ago since I updated my blog let alone since I actually started first writing this blog. So many things have changed and I’ve kept thinking about restarting this but every time I think about doing it life gets in the way and before you know it I just haven’t done it.  So where do I start, how about with the big fella himself. My midnight magic is now 8! He has a heart of gold and after a particularly rough year is definitely coming out of the other side. Magic is a jumping lover and if you let him pick I think that’s all he’d ever do. He’s spent a lot of time working on his flat work which in the long run has really helped to develop his jumping. Last year magic suffered a horrible injury, he damaged his suspensory ligament on his front left leg and on the same leg damaged the collateral ligament that goes to his coffin joint, unfortunately for him he had a pretty bleak prognosis, with only a 30% of being even field sound.  So I've always got the best intentions of restarting this blog but it doesn't always work out like that and it seems that i forgot how much time and effort I put in to this blog but that doesn't mean I'm going to give in trying.  After my Last blog post magic had some unplanned time off. I'm sure that some of you will remember that i was training to do my bhs stages and become a freelance from well all that hard work paid off and I finally have my own business doing exactly that. Unfortunately after my Last post things got crazy busy for me and I ended up with a very poorly two year old as well as working some pretty long hours. I don't think magic was two bothered by the time off though. 😂😂  Fast forward and Jax is now feeling much better and work had been slightly quieter which had meant that i have had more time to spend with magic. We've had 2 really good lessons since my last post both of which have been working towards our next dressage competition ...

 So I realised that it has been a while since I updated this blog so thought out was time to bring it back to life. Magic is now 6  and the b dream finally came true. Since I last posted we have moved yards and magic is now on a lovely yard, it's a working farm with lots of character and a family atmosphere. Magic is coming on in leaps and bounds me as you gu us have been on this journey with me from the start I decided that it was time to bring you guys back along for the journey.  Magic got backed over a year ago now and since then we have entered our first online competition, we have competed at our first ever competition at a venue and we've done our first ever endurance ride. We have changed coaches, made friends and lost friends but most importantly we've learnt together and come a really long way.  So let's talk about our most recent adventures, the first one being his first ever endurance ride. It has been a while since I have posted on here but I thought it was the perfect time to restart the blog. So to start with I'll give you all an update on what's been going on over the years since I've posted and then I will be back to regularly posting and keeping you all updated on the world of magic.  The first big change who I need to introduce is Jaxon, Jaxon is mine and Jack's 7 month old baby, he was born on the 7th July 2020. Part of this blog will be dedicated to overcoming the challenges of having a small child and owning a horse, even when everyone told me it was impossible to do. Jax has a best friend Bailey who is mums new 1 year old puppy and he has the best time trying to play with her.  Of course Magic is one of Jaxon's best friends.  Now for an update on Magic, he is doing really well, I can't remember if I ever told you, but he moved yards last year when I was pregnant with little man. Well things are quite on the horse front, as normal the horses had the weekend off meaning that I also got to have the weekend off. Then today I was planning doing more work with Magic, I was going to lunge him with his saddle on again however when I woke up it was TOO HOT! The weather was registering at between 26 and 30 degrees, now I'm a human and I don't have a fur coat and I was struggling to even walk around. So I decided that the weather conditions were to hot for him and something that he couldn't deal with. So he has had the day off in his stable. Things are going well with Magic, in fact with all the horses at the yard, as you all know I managed to Lunge Magic and Ride Derry on Wednesday, Thursday Magic got to do a little bit of work, then I lunged Sparky, and then hopped on Sonny for a little bit, before Friday Magic got lunged in the field to do something different. Over the weekend the horses had the time off, this is the time when Jack's off work so we tend to do things and then I focus on Magic while Jack is at work, we also didn't have a car this weekend. Today kick started the week off on the right foot. I had a lie in this morning when I got back from collecting a parcel and taking Jack to work, then mum came over and we tidied my Garden up before heading over to the yard. When I got there I lunged Magic for a while, we focused on staying in walk and trot and lunging for 7 minutes in each direction with no side reins. okay so I've had a few days off posting, not because I don't enjoy posting but because I needed to get my head straight on the whole housing situation, which still isn't great. On Friday we viewed two more houses one which could have been great and one which was a just no straight away. While there was hope neither worked out as the only one we were interest came back as a no the land lord would not accept our situation. Saturday and sunday I looked for houses but came up with nothing! I knew there wasn't much chance that things would be uploaded over the weekend though. Today we went to view the PERFECT house, nicely decorated, location, size, it was the 'one' if there was ever one that could be the one. The lady showing us around seemed really positive about our situation however a couple of hours later we got a phone call that said NO, it was another door slammed shut and just wasn't something the landlord would be happy to do. Well today has been a bit better and a bit worse, now I know that probably sounds like a complete contradiction but it's definitely how I'm feeling. I woke up this morning and still felt awful so chose to go back to sleep. My mum said that she would do Magic for me but I still wanted to go and see him. Mum said that I was to take it easy and not do to much so while she was starting doing his stable, I decided to start off by brushing him. But then I decided that we would try and do some work so I spent some time giving him some fuss before putting all his tack/equipment back on, we then spent four and half minutes lunging to the right and then four and a half minutes to the left. It took me a while to get him to be calm and relaxed but this was due to the fact that he was quite excitable today, he was a bit all over the place but we still managed to get some nice work together. We did walk and trot in both directions, I tried to ask for the canter but that wasn't happening...

Hi y'all Well today has been a good day, I didn't get the world's best nights sleep but I managed to eventually sleep the whole morning away. Jack and I then went to my mums for lunch, every year my uncle and his girlfriend come down for an early Christmas lunch as they never come for christmas. So today was the day, we did the normal pleasantry conversations and talked about not a lot, but while it was good to see them he is also completely and utterly insane. After this we went to see magic moo.  Now my little man is a complete and utter nightmare at keeping his bed clean! Every night without fail he trashes it, and every day I'll think maybe tomorrow will be better but that day hasn't come yet. I put him two huge haynets up, cleaned all his bedding up and made him a nice big fluffy bed. I then sorted his tea ready for when I came in. So today was the second consistent day that Magic has had to do something different, where he's had to learn and he's had to think about what he is doing.  So I'll start with yesterday, yesterday Magic has had Bridle on again and went for his second walk out of the yard in a while. We did not walk far out just to the top of the drive and back, we then stood around and waited for a little while. Magic was super nervous due to the fact that he has never seen cows before. However he stood there nicely for a while and got used to the cows and I waited until he had settled down before bringing him back on to the yard. He then had to stand in the stable next to his (with his Bridle on) while he was wandering around, and at the same time I played Cow noises that I found on youtube (my mum's idea) to desensitise him to the sound so that next time it might be a little bit less scary.  Below are some pictures from yesterday. So as I'm sure that you will all remember I used to walk Magic out all the time on the road. Unfortunately he then got poorly, so we had to stop doing this as at one point he was on box rest with literally no walks. So today for the first time in ages I took advantage of the sunny day and we went on our first 'walk out' of the year. It wasn't long but it was good and it was well behaved. Lynn has quite a long drive way down to the farm, so to get Magic used to traffic again we walked to the top of the drive and then stood for a few minutes.  Both my mum and jack were there to make him feel more comfortable with this and we took it entirely at Magic's pace. Allowing him to look at things but encouraging him to move on and not just stand still and freak out. We stood at the top of the drive for 5-6 minutes and just let him see what was coming and going until he was feeling much calmer and was happy to stand and trim the grass by the pavement!  We then walked ...

Hi Everyone,  Well it's been a while since I wrote on here, I keep meaning to get back in to blogging but it just doesn't happen, the most annoying part is that everyday I think about blogging, and that I need to write something and then something comes along. So what's been going on? Well, life has been quite hectic at the moment, things haven't been the best the past couple of weeks, but they are starting to kind of look up.  So I'll start with Magic, Magic is doing great! He's finally back out with the herd and he is loving every single moment of it. He goes out first thing in the morning and then some days I will bring him in early at anywhere between 1 and 2 and then other days he will stay out with the rest until between 3 and 4. I feel that he still needs to come in early so that he realises that he can come in on his own and that it's nothing to be stressed or worried about. So it's been such a LONG time since I have blogged and I really do miss it so much, I keep saying that I am going to get back in to it and I really do plan on doing this but with Magic being poorly and one thing after another, time just runs away with me. So first of all Merry christmas I hope that you all had a fantastic time!  Merry Christmas from my amazing little man and I.  So I got some amazing presents off my family they included, a framed clipping of Magic's hoof, from the first time that Magic was ever trimmed by the farrier! His feet were just so tiny. I got a lovely charm off my daddy for my pandora bracelet and two charms from my boyfriend he really did surprise me. He got me a pudsey charm that I have been wanting for a long time, and a charm that says 'home sweet home' and is a home, to represent our new home next year, but more to come on to that later! Well I tried writing this blog post yesterday, and then today I ended up deleting everything. It's been that long since I've blogged that I don't think I'd be able to catch you all up on everything in just one post. So I'm going to go about it differently and start off by letting you  know what I've been up to recently and then I'll just fill in the gaps as I go along. For those of you who don't have me on Facebook I've also had Magic in Derbyshire for a year now, while I've owned him since day one he's been all mine officially for just over a year and what a journey it's been.  So today I took Magic for a walk, I think we calculated that we walked between 3 miles and 4 miles. This was the first time that I had taken Magic out in ages due to his lameness issues which are now all resolved. Which also enabled us to give him his second proper trim for his hooves. well things have been super busy here, Casper hasn't been very well, Magic's been lame and I've been ill. Jack had a job then lost his job, then I've been working on my own business creating personalised products so first things first. Magic.  Magic is doing really, we are doing lots of work on him picking his feet up, he is fine with his front ones but his back ones he's still a bit off with. He's been lame in his front foot as well the opposite one to that he has an abscess in, then this time he had a 3 inch splinter in his frog, that wasn't visible to the human eye. This had developed an abscess that the farrier burst, but for over a week after he was still lame, so been poulticing his foot, keeping him on box rest but I think that ended up doing more damage than good because he freaked out being in on his own so he went back out with the rest of them. I bought him a cheap bridle yesterday for when I am getting him used to the feel.  He's coming ...

Well the past few days have't really been that eventful to be honest. For the past three days I've been having health issues with passing out again, including yesterday passing out down my flat stairs while on the way to take my dog out. Which I've got to say was quite painful and uncomfortable. I've also been none stop sleeping for the past few days and really couldn't tell you why, I'm just not able to stay awake for whatever reason.  Magic is doing really well on Monday I thought that he was a bit off, Mum had bought him in from the field in the morning as I wasn't very well and fed him and then I went up to see him in the evening. When I got there we did a bit more work on getting him used to having his bit in, which i've got to say he excelled himself at, and as he was walking around he didn't look 100% himself. But then as I went to put him in the field I noticed that his front right leg (if you were looking at him from behind) looked like...

Okay guys so I'm looking for advice over a couple of things. Magic is now just over one, when he turned one I used some bailing twine as advised by my yard owner to measure how big a bit Magic would need and it came back as a 5 inch happy mouth snaffle, I got the one with a lozenge in. However today when I went to put it in he let me put it in fine and then kept putting it under his tongue, but every time I went to look in his mouth he'd put his tongue back again. Can anyone give me any advice on whether this is just part of his learning process or whether this is because it's too big or something like this? Or is it just that I am not managing to get the bit high enough?  See my boy has such a stunning coat, and is looking good, just looking slightly thin at the moment in time.  Also another thing is Magic has one large feed a day (the amount is still with in the guidelines and restrictions though), and he comes in for an hour or so and will eat one large hay net in...

Well those of you that know me and have got me on Facebook will have seen that on the 19th May Magic turned one and he got a birthday present, well it was a present for me but it meant work for him. He also got two small likits for his swinging ball as I'm finding these really hard to be able to find and buy at the moment. Apparently there is a problem with manufacturing at the moment. I bought Magic a 5inch happy mouth snaffle bit with a lozenge in the middle. I then decided that his birthday would be the start of his training, so I went up to the stable bought him in and gave him a really good brush. After this I decided to put his bit in for the first time, I connected two pieces of bailing twine to the bit and put it in. I made sure to stand at his left shoulder and put it on as if I was putting a bridle on him. I then connected the bailing twine to one of the metal loops on his head collar to hold it in place using a bow. I kept it in for a few minutes and then took it out ag...
